  1. Computer restarts after selecting non default Windows 10 in Boot Menu

    Hi,

Let me first describe my configuration. I have 2 Windows 10 running on separate disks. On my first disk with the efi partition I have my default Windows 10 which I use for gaming, browsing, regular PC stuff. On my second disk I I have my extra Windows 10 (same version as the first one) which I deliberately use for development (reason: have a full isolated environment and gain exclusive access to the hardware for both situating, thus circumventing virtualisation).

    in short:

SSD1: Windows 10 (default boot option)
SSD2: Windows 10 with Visual Studio

When starting my computer I noticed that windows is loading for a while, and just before the login screen shows up, it gives me the boot menu (a bit late imo). When I select my default Windows 10 (or let it time out) it immediately shows me the login screen.

However when I select Windows 10 with Visual Studio, the computer reboots and has to start reloading the OS on the second drive.

My question: Why does the boot menu show up so late and can this be changed? In prior version the boot loaders whas the first thing, and only after a choice it would start loading any of the OS. Now it looks like it already loads my default OS and needs to start over when I select my other OS.

There is literally no time win in already loading the default OS... only a increase of time when I need to load my other OS.

    :)

Boot up selections, how to delete menu

    Hey Guys

I just scored a windows 7 copy and installed it to my HDD on a different partition. Now everytime the computer boots up, I have a menu where I can select win7 or previous OS. I originally had XP on my C: then installed win on a separate partition...

How do I disable that menu and have it to boot up with win 7

    THanks*Toast :toast:

  3. No startup boot menu

    Hello Kimoefat,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

As an initial recommendation, I would suggest you to access the System configuration utility and check if the Operating System installation path for Ubuntu exists. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Type msconfig in the search bar and select System Configuration from the search results.
    • Select the boot tab in the System configuration console to check if the installation path for Ubuntu exists.
If it exists, next logical step is to check if the boot menu time out has been set to 0, which results in Boot menu not showing up.

The boot menu time-out determines how long the boot menu is displayed before the default boot entry is loaded. It is calibrated in seconds. To change the boot menu time-out, use the Bootcfg
/timeout switch. Valid values are from 0 through 999. You cannot use Bootcfg to set an indefinite time-out.

You can run the following Run command line to set the boot menu time-out accordingly. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Press Windows key + X, select
Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt

    • Type in the following command: bootcfg /timeout 10

      timeout 10
will set the time frame to 10 seconds
However, if the Boot path for Ubuntu does not exist in the boot menu of System Configuration utility, I would suggest you to check if the Ubuntu is overridden by the Windows installation or if the Ubuntu installation files are corrupted.

Hope the above information is helpful. If you need further information, feel free to write to us and we would be happy to help you.

    Thank You.

  4. Computer restarts after selecting non default Windows 10 in Boot Menu

    Dual Boot Windows question.

I very recently had a windows 7/windows 10 db PC.

After your first Time starting up in selecting which OS you want after the bio splash screen windows 10 actually creates a selection screen with a nice fancy pretty graphic user interface. Actually by default what it's doing is loading windows 10 so when you pick seven it restarts the computer. I personally didn't like the GUI selection screen as far as performance wise it worked pretty well this was up to last week that I was running this PC

    looks like this
