    computer screen goes black but computer still running windows 10


    I am using HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, with windows 10 single language 64 bit Operating System, with 8 GB RAM.

    I am facing TWO major issues:

    1. After leaving the system idle for more then an hour, the computer screen goes black but computer still running windows 10, and it does not wake up. no issue arise, if i continuously work on the system, even for hours
    2. But after working for full day, when a tried to shutdown the system, the same situation arises i.e. computer screen goes black but computer still running windows 10, but never shut down.

    so in both the case i have to use forced shutdown, by press and hold power button.


    had also executed check disk but no problem found. I doubt my system would crash one day.

    As the screen goes black I suggest you to refer the Microsoft article on
    Troubleshoot black screen problems and check if it helps.

    I also see that you are facing issues with the keyboard this might be due to the corruption of keyboard drivers. I suggest you to run the
    hardware and devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    Follow the below steps for the same.

    Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter. Refer these steps:

    • Press Windows key + X, select Control panel.
    • Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
    • Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
    • Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
    • Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

    Computer Black Screen

    I normally leave my computer run 24/7 but lately the computer has to be rebooted daily because it does the following:


    • Becomes unresponsive with a black screen
    • Network link goes down when this happens
    • Computer can't be revived and simply has to be rebooted.

    Event logs show NOTHING when this happens and I know the rough time when it happens because I have nagios monitoring my network including this computer and it tells me when it looses internet, etc.

    I've replaced the video card with a brand new one yet this still happens. I'm thinking it has to be a bad PSU or mainboard but I'm unsure what to do to resolve it.

    Computer screen goes black

    Ever since I downloaded the latest update 2017-11 cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1709 ( KB4048955 ) when I put my computer to sleep and after an hour or so I wake it up the computer comes back up and then the screen goes black . The light on the
    computer is on but the screen stays black. I hole the button down on the computer to restart it and it is fine . This never has happened before until the above download. Ned some help to resolve this issue.
