Windows 10: Computer shuts down after three minutes shorter intervals also. Novice requests help!

Hi Microsoft!


I don't know what to do or where to look for an answer, so I'm checking in:


I turn on the computer Asus laptop, Win 10, it boots properly, and is ready to go. I type in the screen password, and all looks good. No matter what I'm doing, and it matters not if I'm "active" or "not active" the computer suddenly stops, a message regarding screen lock appears momentarily, then the computer shuts down.


This has occurred beginning three hours ago, and I restarted the computer, waiting about two minutes between shut-down and start up, three times this afternoon, with the strange shut-down occurring each time. I'm quite miffed about this, since I think the upload of the new update may have been rejected, or it didn't load properly, but with the computer shutting down shortly after I start it up, I don't want to try reloading the update.


No dump report was noted, Norton Security says I'm virus and malware-free, and I don't know what else to check. Please help!

Thank you Ron; but that is the first thing I did when I installed the operating system. That was the fist thing I did on any operating system I installed. Even though, I did it again just to make sure; no luck. Besides, the screen "shuts off" at different
times. I believe it a Malware program. Any suggestions?

Windows 10 slide show shorter than 1 minute

The registry entry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Personalization\Desktop Slideshow\Interval
does set the interval in milliseconds as suggested by Psycogeek above but to activate you have to go to the setting window (by right clicking the desktop and selecting Personalize) which will appear to show the interval as 10 minutes but it hasn't actually been changed. Just close the setting window and the interval between pictures will change as immediately as specified. Alternatively you have to restart the computer. Change to 10000 decimal for a 10 second interval.

Hi David,

This has something to do with the Display settings of your Computer.

To set when the Turn off the Display, follow the steps below:

• Click the Start button on the desktop, then select Settings.
• Open PC and devices (or System).
• Select Power and sleep.
• Under Screen, choose Never from the dropdown list.
  

This should prevent your screen from turning off at different intervals.
