Computer shutting down unexpectedly (after upgrade)

Win 7 Desktop upgraded to Win 10 on 25-July. All was well until 9-Aug and 10-Aug when computer has shut down unexpectedly. In Reliability Monitor it shows (Windows) Photos stopped working on both days. Then after the crash the monitor shows Windows was not properly shut down, stopped working and shut down unexpectedly. Related? No changes have been made other than installing a few programs (CCleaner, Speccy) immediately after the upgrade. I did not have this issue when it was on Win 7.

edit: This has happened two more times since I originally posted. Computer was going to sleep but instead of power button being amber, it was unlit. Pressing it restarted the computer and again I saw that Windows was not properly shutdown, stopped working and shut down unexpectedly. I will attach a second dm log file. Also I have updated System Specs to reflect this desktop computer.

    :)

    Hi bru,

Please check HP for driver updates for the Realtek LAN driver.
Your Realtek LAN driver seems to be having issues with changing the power state for sleep.

Thank you axe0. May I refer you to this thread Losing wired connection that I had started about another issue that occurred prior to this but now I feel is probably related. I had some internet disconnects on my desktop while connected via ethernet. A member said that his same Realtek driver was on 9.1.404.15 as opposed to mine on 9.1.402.15. He said his driver was downloaded from Windows, as was mine. I wonder why they gave me an older one? If I check for an updated driver Windows tells me I am up to date.

I will look into what driver is available but I am pretty sure I will need to get it direct from Realtek as I had previously checked and HP does not have any Win 10 drivers available for my desktop.

I do not think it is related, because connection and sleep are different things.

How did you check for updates?

Through Driver Manager. Right click>Update Driver Software. Looking online as we speak.

Device manager rarely does say there is an update, I wouldn't recommend to check via device manager.
Either HP, Windows Update or Realtek should be checked for driver updates.

Yes, but I figured I would try it first. WU says I am up to date so it isn't finding a different driver.

Should I uninstall the driver and when it reinstalls after a restart see if I get an updated driver?

There won't be an update for the driver available, maybe once in a long while a new driver update is being pushed by Microsoft through Windows Update but as you have already a driver from Windows Update there won't be one available anytime soon.

Seems odd to me that in the other thread that user shows the exact same Realtek controller but he has a newer driver even though we both had the driver installed by MS. Back to my search.

edit: Also will add that last night when I was doing some searching I came across people saying having "fast startup" enabled was causing a similar problem as mine. So I disabled it and the computer did sleep at least two times without an issue,.

Such questions are better asked to Microsoft, I would assume that the difference with systems (i.e., different Realtek connection) has something to do with it but more I can't say.

I added an edit above related to "fast startup". Read that disabling it might help my issue.

I can't find any issue about fast startup in your logs, but good to know it helps.

I still think I should find a newer driver.

Just checked and two of my laptops use the same Realtek driver. The laptop that came with Windows 10 has an even newer driver version than what was posted in the other thread, 10.1.505.2015. The other laptop, which was originally Win 8 (then 8.1) and is now Win 10 has a much older driver, from 2013. It seems the driver was never updated by MS when the computer was upgraded. I can go to the mfg. site for that computer and it has the same 10.1.505.2015 available, so I am thinking that would be the one to use on the desktop too. I can see MS installed the driver during the upgrade process, I wonder why it used such an old one?
