Windows 10: Computer slow and disk at 100%

    Computer slow and disk at 100%


    I have Windows 10. My computer has been running very slowly, often with quite a lag. Even writing that first sentence, I had to wait several seconds while the computer caught up with my typing. Opening task manager, I see that my disk is often at or near 100%. I have included a couple shots below of the sorts of things I am seeing. My computer recently updated after being in storage for a few months. I saw that disabling superfetch should help. I used "net.exe stop sysmain" and this sometimes helps but sometimes does not. Are there any other fixes I can try for a more long-term solution? Will

    disk is at 100%. Computer is slow

    My window 10 HP laptop is slow and sometimes unresponsive. Disk is at 100% when nothing is running

    100% disk usage and slow boot

    Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron laptop for about three and a half years and in recent months its boot is slow and in the first minutes, it uses 100% of the disk.
    It has some heavy programs like Visual Studio, Android Studio and more on it, but it's not always been like that.

    I use windows 10 home. The computer has Intel I5 CPU and 8GB RAM.

    Are there suggestions for improving the computer's performance?

    Hi Rey Cam. Thanks. Yes I tried her steps. I did do her steps but realized that neither was the case. It stopped doing the 100% thing after a few other changes I made to superfetch in other areas but now it is back so I'm going through it all again.
    I will try Gerry C Cornell's list now. It is pretty tedious because everything moves so slow when your disk is at 100%... this will take hours.
