Windows 10: Computer stuck (100% disk usage) after exactly one hour of work

Hey,

This is my last resort. I don't know what to do anymore except formatting my PC.
Since a few days ago, my PC (Windows 10 on Dell XPS 15Z + 128GB SSD) is getting stuck EXACTLY 1 hour after reboot.
I have reinstalled Windows 10 a few days ago and it hasn't solved the problem.

What happens is that exactly 1 hour after boot, I see that Disk usage is going to 100% without any specific process taking any particular actions, then UI stops working, keyboard doesn't react and only the mouse responds.
This happens in a matter of seconds up to 1 minute and then I have to physically shut down my PC using the power key.

This is very weird and I have no clue why this is happening. I tried looking at the TaskScheduler but saw no tasks that run or supposed to run in the minute that the computer gets stuck.

[Win 10] 3 hours after starting, the system becomes slow.

3 hours after starting, the system becomes slow when I try to switch the input languages, switch the working windows like web pages or pdf reader, and also input something. At that time the usage of disk is below 20%.

Another problem is the usage of disk sometimes will raise up to 100%. In the first half hour after starting the laptop, it's always 100%.

What's the problem of that and how to solve? Thank you.

 

Is windows 10 made by kids? Windows 10 have reduced my monthly work to 30%. bugs bugs bugs.....

Tired of using windows 10 today my laptop got stuck 5 times and it takes about 15 min to restart each time. and its happening from the very first day i installed this peace of ****. very disappointed with window 10.

- wifi have problem, i have to troubleshoot it once in an hour. because the connection disappears.

- disk usage is normally 100% and it stuck the computer. it doesn't matter which CPU you got, how much ram it have, 100% usage of disk will lock the performance.

- window update have problem it is stuck at 83 %.

- it takes about 10 min from pressing the start button to be at ready mode.

- Core i3, 4gb ram, intel hd 3000.

 

Try running this command see if it finds errors, should have to reboot to run ...
chkdsk c: /f /r
Run in command prompt admin.

 

That is strange, because usually at least 3 Windows tasks run nonstop.

When you open Run and enter:

perfmon /res

Does Disk show anything on top, suggesting a high usage? Disk I/O would be shown in MB/sec.

 

I did it.
I don't think it even ended. It was stuck on 28% for a really long time and then the computer rebooted.
Any thoughts?

 

What I meant was that I know exactly on what minute the computer hard disk will go to 100% usage and then the computer will get stuck. So I looked at the Task Scheduler to see if there's any tasks that are scheduled for that minute or a little before it and I saw none.

When it happens, Task Manager shows disk usage of 100% but no process is taking more than ~0.5% of usage.

I tried to chkdsk.exe and it made me restart my PC. so I did, but then chkdsk was stuck on 28% for a long time and then reboot.

 

That command checks your hard drive for errors ....it should have finished ....sometimes it can take a long time to finish if it finds lots of errors. Too bad you didn't see it finish ....because I was wondering if your hard drive was failing. This would explain your long boot up times.
Could be other factors too, just thought that would be the 1st place to check.
Also could run this command
sfc /scannow and see what it reports to you.

 

sfc /scannow returned:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I'll try to rerun chkdsk prior to windows boot

 

You need to run that chkdsk command and let it finish ...even if it takes a long time ....
