Windows 10: Computer stuck at 100% disk usage, I've tried everything and nothing will fix it.

For months now my laptop has been using 100% of the disk. I've tried everything to fix it including things like disabling Windows Search and Superfetch. Nothing works as a permanent solution. The top five processes usually hogging all of the disk are: System, Google Chrome (when open), Windows Module Installer, Registry, various Service Hosts, and Cortana.


I've seen System use an ungodly amount of the disk (up to 99.6%) and it is constantly using above 50%. Sometimes I see it dip down to ~30% but it's usually above 50%.


Like I said I have tried everything you see in videos or articles on how to fix it. Nothing has worked permanently. Some things have fixed it until I restart my laptop, but that's it. It's causing my laptop to tank performance-wise and making it chug hard to do anything, even start up or just do simple things.


I'm at a loss of what to do at this point. I'm thinking I'll just have to have it taken in to be repaired if I can't find anything else online.

Intel i7-7700HQ

100% disk usage bug - tried everything online - FIX DATE please ???!!

Issue: 100% disk usage bringing down my whole system perfomance

Workaround: NONE are working ( tried more than 40 suggestions including Microsoft one)

Computer stuck (100% disk usage) after exactly one hour of work

What I meant was that I know exactly on what minute the computer hard disk will go to 100% usage and then the computer will get stuck. So I looked at the Task Scheduler to see if there's any tasks that are scheduled for that minute or a little before it and I saw none.

When it happens, Task Manager shows disk usage of 100% but no process is taking more than ~0.5% of usage.

I tried to chkdsk.exe and it made me restart my PC. so I did, but then chkdsk was stuck on 28% for a long time and then reboot.

The most common cause of 100% disk usage appears to be Superfetch and Prefetch, but there are also other causes. You can try disabling both these features and see if it helps.
