Computer was hacked and an annoying reocurrence...should I dispose it and buy a new one?

    Hi there,

I received a notice from a hijacker two days ago that my computer had been hacked and was demanding several thousand bitcoin as a ransom. I of course ignored that ransom demand and notified Microsoft at once, and one of their support team members sent me links to the Microsoft Safety Tool as well as Microsoft's Malware Removal Tool MSRT? which I ran and hopefully got rid of the malware which the hacker had installed on my computer.

After reading an article on Lifewire on what to do if your computer gets hacked, it mentioned scrubbing your hard drive, wiping your hard drive and a few other items which would probably require an IT professional to perform for I'd guess several hundred dollars.

Since I can buy a new HP All In One Desktop 24" screen on HP's website for $649.99, which route would you take? I've read that Apple's security systems on their computers are stellar, but the thought of paying $1,200 for an all-in-one desktop of theirs with a smaller screen 21.5" isn't that appealing to me.

My desktop is almost 5 years old having purchased it in June of 2016, so it may be on its last legs anyway.

The 'annoying' reocurrence which I mentioned is the fact that while participating on the Chat Row discussion board on The Dan Patrick Show, I will post a reply, another reply or two will come in, and then my post will be reposted AGAIN. This happens intermittently but undoubtedly annoys my fellow posters as well, and tells me that my computer must be infected with something and/or the memory and/or hard drive must be infected/corrupted even though scans from MacAfee LiveSafe as well as Windows Defender turned up no signs of a virus.

Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks!

    :)

My computer was hacked and I lost my admin rights. I tried doing a recovery, but that failed. Incomplete. Can't get to lock screen anymore

    Any suggestions?

    Email Hacked

    Hello Greg

thank you for your response and the great information you provided.

I use two step authentication for my email account and all important web sites. I also use the full version of Malwarebytes to protect my computer.

But I will do the scans you suggested AdwCleaner and Limewire.com and let you know the results.

I am worried though that the webcam installed on my laptop could have been hacked. I never use it and forgot about it, so never disabled it.

Any suggestions as to find if it was actually hacked?

    thank you

    mike

It's time to buy a new computer: My Windows 7 desktop is six years old, and it's time to replace it. It's a moderately high-end HP desktop, so I was thinking about getting another HP. But a co-worker suggested a semi-custom from non-HP, non-Dell sources. Anyway, here's a sample of what I found: Code:...
