Internet connection causes computer to loose power.

    Hello Cliff,

An outdated network adapter can be one possible reason for this.
To isolate the issue, kindly provide us these details:

    • Have you made any changes on your computer prior to the issue?
    • How are you connected to the internet? Is it via Ethernet cable or is it wirelessly connected?
    • Have you installed the latest Windows updates?

To help us diagnose the cause of this error, we would suggest that you follow these steps:

Step 1: Boot into safe mode and check if the issue persists

Safe mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services. To boot into safe mode, kindly follow the steps on this link.

Step 2: If issue does not persist in safe mode, we suggest you to place the computer in clean boot and check which third party application driver is causing the issue.

Follow the steps on this link to
    perform a clean boot.

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 7 in the above KB article.

We’ll keep an eye out for your response.

  3. Computer looses battery charge when shutdown

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft community.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused, we are happy to help you.

Before I could assist you better, I would like to know the below information:

    • Are you using window's power options properties
Meanwhile I suggest you to try the following steps:

You can drain the residual power of your computer and re-calibrate the battery by following the steps below:

    • Power off your computer.

    • Remove all the external peripherals (printers, scanners or any other USB device) connected to your computer.

    • Please remove the AC adapter and battery of your computer.

    • Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain the residual power.

    • Release the power button

    • Keep the battery out for atleast 2 - 3 hours.

    • Then insert the battery and charge it overnight with the system powered off.

    • Insert the battery in and connect the AC adaptor.

    • Then power on the computer and see if it works.
If the issue still persists, you can check in BIOS if the charger behavior is enabled. You may follow the steps below to check same in BIOS:

    • Restart the computer.

    • As soon as you see the Dell logo, start tapping the ‘F2’ key on top of the keyboard.

    • If you wait too long and the Microsoft Windows appears, then continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Now shutdown your computer and try again.

    • After this a new window would appear. You can only use the arrow keys of the keyboard to navigate between the options as the mouse is not functional in this mode.

    • Navigate to the 'Advanced' tab, check if the charger behavior is enabled. Enable if disabled.

    • Restart your computer
If the issue persists, kindly change the power plan and check.

Kindly follow the below steps to change power plan:

    1. Press Windows key + X from the keyboard.

    2. Choose Command prompt from the context menu.

    3. In the command prompt, type powercfg –restoredefaultschemes
    and press Enter.

    4. Exit command prompt.

Please start fresh with configuring the power mode options after implementing the above recommendation, and check if the issue continues to persist.
