I have a new Windows 10 desktop (Windows Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.1256)), and it has a highly annoying quirk. You know that little upwardly rising "ding" sound the computer makes when something is inserted into a USB port and then the downwardly dropping ding tone when something is pulled out of a USB port? Whenever my computer is idle for a few minutes, like when I am using it to play music but not actively working on it, it will start repeatedly "dinging" - as if somebody was plugging something into a USB port and then pulling back out again every second over and over and over incessantly - until I "wake up" the computer by jostling the mouse or something. Very weird and very annoying. Is there any way I can prevent this? Thanks!

    :)

    won't stop dinging

I've had my phone for about 4 months now..

    its a Samsun sgh i917

    Carrier is AT&T

    os version is 7.0.7390.0

all of a sudden today.. i wasn't even using the phone.. it started to ding.. like the sound it makes when there is a calendar event. Thing is.. it won't stop diging. There is nothing up on the screen except the entry screen that you flick to get to the
phone home page. If it plug it into my computer, the dinging stops. I unplug it and it still is stopped.. after a couple of minutes, sometimes a couple of hours the phone starts to ding again. Again.. nothing on the screen but that flick page. I've tried
turning off the phone, removing it's battery. when it's dinging and i turn the phone off and back on.. as soon as the phone is booted up and that flick screen is on the phone starts dinging. the only way i can get it to stop is to plug it into the computer.

Also.. if i turn the phone to vibrate.. course it doesn't ding anymore.. but it's not constantly vibrating. it behaves as you'd expect

Anyone have any ideas. If i do a factory reset.. i loose all my settings right.. and zune isn't going to put those back.

**now it doesn't matter if i plug it into Zune or not..when i unplug it.. it won't stop dinging.. if i change it to vibrate, it doesn't vibrate, but the flick screen doesn't go away.

I'm starting to get discouraged.. i tried doing a reset on my phone and after the phone was reset.. it keeps on dinging

    thanks

    won't stop dinging

i did do a factory reset. It didn't help. As soon as the phone came up with the setup wizard it started dinging right away. I didn't drop the phone in water or get steam on it.... but it has been really hot and humid the last couple of days...it did start
dinging when i was outside this morning for about an hour... but the rest of the day the phone has been inside in the air conditioning so the humidity level isn't very high... and i would have thought it would have dried out by now if it's just humidity.

I called AT&T and they are shipping me a referbished phone for me to swap it out with... That is going to take 4-6 days to get here I guess.. so i'll see if the phone stops dinging. As the phone is right now with the constant dinging the battery life isn't
real good cause it never goes into sleep mode... it's locked up on me twice today when i tried to do something... Anyway.. i'll give a shout if it stops dinging before the replacement phone gets here.

    Thanks

    won't stop dinging

    Samsung Focus

    SAMSUNG SGH-i917

    OS version: 7.10.7720.68

    Firmware: 2103.11.8.1

    Hardware: 3.1.0.7

I have had this phone for almost 1.5 years and suddenly today it started the dinging as your described. I was dismissing and delaying some Outlook notifications when the dinging started. As many of you tried, I too turned the off phone, popped the battery and
it still dings. I removed my Outlook account and it still dings. I have not tried a hardware reset yet but suspect that it will continue to ding if I were to do so.

Is anyone aware of a firmware update for this phone?

This has been a great phone and I have been absolutely thrilled with it (until today of course). Guess I will be upgrading sooner than I had expected.

**Updated - Oddly enough when I charge the phone the "dinging" stops but as soon I as unplug it, it starts again.**

***Updated (after 30 more minutes of playing around) - The battery life was displaying 3/4 full but I decided to plug it in for a few minutes and the dinging stopped. When I unplugged it, it did not ding. However, 10 minutes later as I am typing this the phone
suddenly "woke up" and started dinging again!! and then stopped after about 2 minutes.***
