Windows 10: Computer won't wake up after sleep

This is actually an answer, not a question.


I've been dealing with this problem for many months. I'd set my Acer Aspire E5-576 to go to sleep under certain conditions, and for a while that worked fine. Then after a gigantic Wndows update, it no longer worked. The computer would appear to be asleep, but wouldn't wake up. The screen wouldn't turn on. The only way to get a usable computer back was to use the power button to turn it off and turn it back on again. I corrupted a few files that way. There was a lot of discussion on the internet, and a lot of suggestions as to how to fix the problem, some of which got me into a position that I had to re-install Windows, with all that that entails.

But I have a solution now. If you have an Acer computer and it's doing what mine was doing, you need to know that YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT ACTUALLY GOING TO SLEEP based on the parameters you specify in Control Panel/Power Options/Choose what the power buttons do.

I finally decided to change my search criteria for a solution to include the word acer, and I found this, below, which works.​

I went into power options I have already messed about in here plentyof times and tried something new. I went to advanced power settings andselected lid closed action, now it already says sleep. So i changed both to donothing and applied this. I then tested and it turns my screen off when i closethe lid so i know the mechanism that works with the sleep mode works! so i wentback into power options and back into advanced to change the setting back tosleep. I thought it might help others to know about this solution. It may work with other computers, as well.​

AND ALSO, some Windows 10 updates may change the settings so they don't work again, so you may have to go through these steps again after an update.​

computer won't wake up from sleep...

Im running windows 7 and whenever i put the computer to sleep and try to wake it I get blue screen of death or the computer would just restart. It sometimes would wake but would get BSOD after a couple of minutes. other times the computer wakes up but the screen stays black and i would have to reset.

990fxa ud3 from gigabyte
antec 500w psu
FX8350 CPU
Asus r9 280x
4gb ram
250 gb hdd

There's a possibility that the settings that enables your Space bar to wake your computer up from sleep was reset after updating Windows. If this what had happened, we suggest that you just re-set it up. See the steps below on how to do
so:

• Press Windows key and type keyboard in.
• Click on Keyboard option and a pop-up windows should show up.
• From there, go to > Hardware tab > Properties >
  Change settings > Power management > Allow this device to wake the computer >
  OK/Apply.

Try the if the steps did work and let us know any updates.
