  1. Computer works in Safe Mode but "crashes" just before login screen

    Hey All,

    Thanks in advance for reading about my issue.

    PROBLEM:
    This issue has happened three or four times now over the past year and a half and what I did to "fix" it previously, didn't work the following times. I've attached a screencap from my phone of what I see when the issue happens. The screen just changes to the vertical lines and I can't do anything. Nothing seems to work aside from a forced reboot. Before it was kind of random when it happened, very infrequent and impossible to recreate.

    The first time this happened, I don't know exactly what "fixed" the issue but everything seemed to be back to normal after running all the tests/scans mentioned below.

    The time after that, I just did a reinstall of Windows after a tech guy from a company called 'Nerds on Site' couldn't figure out the issue and just recommended this action.

    The last time, I restored from a previous point and that seemed to correct the issue for a while.

    Now, I can't even get to the login screen before this happens. Sometimes, just a flash of it and then the coloured screen with vertical lines. I've tried what feels like everything, I'm at a complete loss and definitely feeling defeated.

    *System info and Troubleshooting are after the image.

    Here's the closeup view of what happens when things go wrong:

    The colour doesn't matter, that seems to just be dependant on whatever the desktop image's colours are.

    SYSTEM:

    Processor IntelR CoreTM i3-3240 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.39 GHz

    RAM 16.0 GB

    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    OS: Edition Windows 10 Pro / Version 20H2 / Build 19042.685

    Display: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

    Sound: AMD High Definition Audio Device

    Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio

    Hard Drive: NTFS, 463.73GB, Not compressed

    Malware: Malwarebytes

    AntiVirus: Avast

    Nothing new installed lately software nor hardware

    TROUBLESHOOTING:

    • Checked around a gazillion articles online;
    • Restored from a previous point;
    • Checked that Windows and all drivers are up to date;
    • Ran several system file check SFC scans and repair system files;
    • Ran DISM checkhealth/scanhealth;
    • Unplugged external hard drives and fans;
    • Changed Resolution on Monitor I'm trying anything over here;
    • Looked for the "Minidump" folder, but it wasn't there saw this in an article;
    • Did a Clean Boot and unchecked all services;

    I can get into my computer via Safe Mode with Networking and I have run the above scans as well. Checking the CBS.log file for "corrupt" I found this three times: Failed to clear CorruptionDetectedDuringAcr store corrupt flag slow mode trigger. [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]. After searching on Google, none of the solutions worked.

    I can't replicate the issue in Safe Mode.

    Any advice would be incredibly helpful so that I can actually pinpoint the exact problem!

    THANK YOU!

    :)

  2. Password not accepted in Safe mode

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

    Have you tried all the above steps suggested by Sangeeta Sarkar on September 13, 2015.

    I would suggest you to provide some information to help you better.

    • Are you trying to login the Microsoft account or the Local account in safe mode?
    • Did you try with only safe mode or safe mode with networking?
    • What is the critical error you are getting?

    If you are using Windows 10. To go to safe mode you have to follow the below steps.

    If you are able to go to login screen in normal mode try the below steps to go to safe mode with networking.

    • At the login screen click on the power symbol.

    • Hold SHIFT + Click Restart.

    • After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.

    • Select advanced options under
      Troubleshoot screen.

    • Click on Startup Settings.

    nVidia Quadro 5000 works only in Safe Mode

    Hi gents,
    I run workstation, (m/b Tyan tempest i5400XT, CPU E5420 @2.5MHz-2 processors, RAM 20 GB, Win7, 64 bit) and my NVidia Quadro 5000 worked well in the first year. After the crash the computer system, it is happened some damage of the video card. The computer can work only in Safe Mode with this video card and the screen resolution can be 1600x1200. After restart the comp (from the Safe Mode) at booting system the screen is freezing in sequence "Starting Windows".
    In the Safe Mode the Device Manager recognizes the NVidia Quadro 5000. I have updated NVidia driver to the latest one, but no help, remove the card to another PCI-e slot, no help.
    With other video card, NVidia FX1700, computer works very well.
    Any suggestion for help? What about reload video card BIOS? Can anyone had similar experience?
    Thanks.

  4. Computer works in Safe Mode but "crashes" just before login screen

    Password not accepted in Safe mode

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    I understand the inconvenience caused to you. I will be glad to assist you with your issue.

    Follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    If you see the black screen or have a flickering screen:

    Step 1: Try connecting to different video outputs on the PC. Sometimes a change in driver can cause the video to be sent:

      • To a different Adapter: from integrated graphics to a discrete card or vice versa.
      • To a different output: from HDMI to DVI, Display Port to VGA, or any other combination.
    Step 2: Try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking
    or Enable low-resolution video.

      • Advanced boot options, Safe Mode with Networking, or Low Resolution Video
      • Check Device Manager and look for Display Adapters
        • If you see 2 items under Display Adapters, disable to integrated video card (e.g. Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon HD 4200) and restart. (try vice versa if it does not work).
        • If you see 1 item under Display Adapters, rollback the driver or uninstall the display adapter in Device Manager, and enable the option to delete driver software.
    How to boot into Safe mode.

    Run your computer in Safe mode and see if you still get that error message. If you are not getting that error message in safe mode then perform clean boot on your computer using the steps provided below. If you
    don't get that error message in safe mode then it means that some third party application is causing the problem.

    To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:

    • Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the
      F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
    • Select an option Safe mode with Networking using the arrow keys on the keyboard when the
      Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select Safe mode with Networking and then press
      ENTER.

    I would suggest you to force shutdown your system and then try to restart it again and check if you are able to login to safe boot.

    Check the PC or display adapter manufacturer’s site for an updated driver.

    Let us know the status of the issue. We will be glad to assist you.

    Thank You.
