1. Config UEFI to offer win10x64 or image restore at boot

Here's the best case scenario:

User with this pc will boot to win10. When it's screwed or needs to get unscrewed, they just restore using a 2nd partition with a "insert your favorite image creator" image on it. (At this point I'm not partial to any certain app to do this.

That said, I'm in a commercial environment so I can get something licensed if needed, but would rather not. Currently we own Ghost 8 (cue the crickets) and after installing that I've moved the Ghost program folder to the partition containing the image. It works in it's independent state, so I assume that's good.

I have gone into bios and added a UEFI boot option, pointed to that partition and exe and booted. Hitting the F12 on this dell produced the option to boot into windows boot manager or the ghost option i created, but then when I choose ghost, it tries to go online to get a recovery image for the Dell, rather then load the DOS ghost app.

I have read that UEFI can only boot windows OS or linux OS, but am not savvy enough to be sure on that. Is this my limitation/roadblock? I am not opposed to scrapping and starting over.

All opinions welcome. If I left out anything important, please gimme the Gibbs and I'll provide it. Thank you

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

Config UEFI to offer win10x64 or image restore at boot [IMG]
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.

Reflect Restore UEFI boot from USB problem!

Resulting from a bad restore from restore point, I now must restore an image from an external drive currently connected by USB.

The Reflect rescue/boot is on a flash drive that is currently plugged into the machine’s USB.

The problem: figuring out from the F12 boot options (Dell Inspirion 7000 series) which option to choose in order to get the machine to boot from the flash drive. I must say that before UEFI a simple available boot order sure was easy.

This is what I’m presented with (comment by what I’ve tried unsuccessfully):

UEFI Boot:

Windows Boot Manager (thought I’d get a list but the machine booted as normal)
Onboard NIC – Ipv4
Onborad NIC – Ipv6
Other Options:
Setup
Diagnostics
Peripheral Device Setting (OPROM Setting)
Change boot mode setting (I selected this, then Legacy, then USB, but the result was ‘Operational system not found’

I then booted as normal into windows, booted back to the F12 list and that’s where I am?????

System Image Problem

Version Date

5.05 8/03/2009

5.08 7/21/2009

Which one is newer?
Only 5.05 was offered on HP for the machine I linked.
The description danced around some of the anomalies we're seen with drives.

Since only 5.05 was offered, I questioned 5.08
Guess we know the answer now - 5.05 failed to flash.
We could spend time trying to figure that out, but IMO it's better on the back burner for now

I think the next step is to try the Macrium sleight of hand to get the System Image restored.
I'd like to get the System Image up and running to do the follwoing

• Copy Nick's data to a folder off of the restored System Image C: drive

• run a Belarc Advisor audit to collect license keys for Nick's software

• there might be other data collection that Nick can do in preparation for the final step

The final step is a clean install, install up-to-date MS and 3rd party software, and restore the copied personal data.

Nick was having difficulty locating the outlook files in the System Image - so getting it back running live is the best I can think of.

Thoughts, suggestions, and objections are always welcome and considered
