  1. configure firewall and security settings for a private network of connected computers

I am trying to connect my brother mfc printer. I work for a non profit business and we have 2 computers that are hardwired from the printer to the router. WHAT DO MY FIREWALL AND SECURITY SETTINGS NEED TO BE IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE MY DEVICE IS CONNECTED PROPERLY TO A NETWORK, oR IS THIS NOT A PRIVATE NETWORK AND SHOULD BE SET UP AS PUBLIC?

    DESPERATELY NEEDING HELP

  2. Private Firewall settings blocking RDP access

    Hi all,
Cant seem to have both Firewall Private network settings and RDP working together. Here's my setup.
Note it works fine when I have the firewall as in the image,, but once I swtich to 'Turn On Windows Defender Firewall in Private Network settings, RDP gets blocked. (tried with/without 'Network Level Authentication')
Is there something else I'm missing?
    Thanks in advance.

    Gerry

  3. Arete One Win User
Can't split networks between Public and Private

New Win10 Pro install from scratch on a laptop with both a wi-fi and wired ethernet connections.

The wi-fi connects to a router on 192.168.253.x, and that router connects to the Internet. The IP is delivered by the DHCP server based on the MAC address.

The wired ethernet connects to a hub, with a total of four computers. The IPs for each are specified in the NIC configuration on the 192.168.252.x network.

Windows 10 calls the wired ethernet "Unidentified network" and sets it to Public along with the wi-fi network. There is no listing for the wired ethernet network in the registry under the ..\NetworkList\Profiles entries, so I can't flip the Category setting there. There is only one entry, and it's the wi-fi network.

I turned the wi-fi adapter off and then shared a folder. This made the wired ethernet network Private, but when I turned the wi-fi back on, they both showed up as Public.

With the wired ethernet network set to Public, I can't easily connect to shares or use RD from my main system into this one without turning off Windows Firewall. But since the WF setting is based on the Private and Public setting, right now it's an all or nothing thing.

I need to find a way to leave my wi-fi connection set to Public, but get my wired ethernet set to Private.

    Any suggestions?

    TIA.

  4. configure firewall and security settings for a private network of connected computers

Help needed with simple wired network

Step one- Connect all PC's to router, and then the router to the modem. PC's go to router by the ports labeled "1-4" on the back of the router. WAN port goes to router. Power up all network equipment, and then systems.
Step two- Power on the computer connected to port one. Go into router settings at 192.168.0.1 and configure internet, dyndns, firewall, etc.
Step three- Go to "network set up wizard" in windows. (Network places- network set up wizard). The rest is self explanatory.
Step four- right click on each drive and printer you want to share, and then configure sharing preferences. Should be easy enough.
Step five- right click my computer, and the select "map network drive". Using the network address for each piece of hardware you shared, assign network drive letters.

Congratulations, you have a fully operational network. Happy Gaming! *Toast :toast:
