Windows 10: Configure the network firewall to allow access to the following URLs on port 80

When I sign in to the Wi-Fi on two different college campuses MSN.com opens after logging in which is causing me trouble.This article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/networking/internet-explorer-edge-open-connect-corporate-public-network suggests this fix:To prevent the browser window from opening when the computer connects to a network that has a proxy server, you have to configure the network firewall to allow access to the following URLs on port 80:*.msftncsi.com*.msftconnecttest.comI am using the Firewall in Windows Security that comes with Windows 11.H

I believe that my firewall is blocking access to Family Tree Maker / Ancestry / MacKiev SYNC - I can't see any reference to any of these names in the allowed list ....

I can't see any way of adding to the allowed list

Any suggestions ?

 

Configuring firewall of echo port 7

Hi,

I have an old application that uses TCP echo port 7 to ping a sever to see if it is there. On the server it is connecting too I have installed simple network features. If I turn off the firewall on the server completely, then the program can connect to port
7. But with the firewall turned on, it cannot. I have added a rule to the inbound section of the firewall, allowing any program to receive connections on port 7. but this did not fix it. How do I configure the firewall correctly? I am using Windows Server
2012 standard.

I'm just trying to be able to use a VPN to access a public network. Those instructions you refer me to seem to make the port accessible, but there's nothing about a specific url. Does that mean anything that uses that port will bypass my firewall? Is that
safe?
