  1. Configured VPN Connections and mapped drives In Windows 10 Disappear

    Hello,

I am new to the forum and to the IT Industry...I have been tasked with building out a Lenovo T440p Laptop with Windows 10 Pro OS...Part of the configuration requirements was to configure VPN connection for the user prior to delivering the laptop...I configured the VPNs and tested them and powered down the machine...The next day when I got to work I powered on the machine to continue my configuration and the VPNs were gone from Settings and the Network Adapter settings in Control Panel...I checked my notes on the ticket to ensure I did not forget to set up the VPNs and my notes confirmed that I had set up the VPNs...So, I set them up again and tested them successfully and placed shortcuts on the desktop...This also happened to a drive that I mapped and an application shortcut I placed on the desktop...So I reconfigured and tested them again...The next day the laptop was delivered to the client who called stating the VPNs, Mapped Drive and Application shortcut were missing...I have searched for information on this situation and have found nothing...Any Ideas??? Thanks!!! Steve

    :)

Defender Blocking VPN Remote File Access

I am using the Windows 10 built-in VPN.

I have configured VPN to connect to a remote server via PPTP and can connect to the remote server successfully.

I cannot access mapped drives on the remote server (error 0x80070035) unless I turn Defender Firewall OFF.

Once Defender is OFF, I can then access and work with the mapped drives. At this time, I can then turn Defender back ON and continue working with the remote drives.

What settings do I need to change within Defender Firewall so that I can access remote mapped drives without having to turn Defender OFF.

The local device name is already in use"

I am using Windows 10 machine and my domain server is running Windows server 2016. When i am out of the office I connect via Draytek SLL tunnel VPN.

Once i start the VPN i wait a little while and then my network drives appear and it is all ok. After some time maybe 10 minutes I lose my drives, when I check my VPN connect it is still connected but I get the following error:

Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored."

I connect to the mapped network drive on my company Windows 10 machine such as \\server.company.com\sharedfolder
