Windows 10: "Confirm Folder Replace" Prompt- Does it replace or merge folders?

Good day! I was moving files from a mobile phone to a external hdd today to clear space on my phone. I was using the "move to" function, so I wouldn't have to go back and delete the files I moved. However, halfway through the moving process, my hdd stopped working. I got a prompt that my device got disconnected, effectively cancelling the moving process. I reconnected my hdd and moved the same folders again. This time, I got a "confirm folder replace" prompt similar to the picture below. I clicked "do this for all current items" and "yes" without thinking. Now I'm worried I replaced the existi

How do you replace a folder in Win 10

When I try to paste a folder where there is already a folder of the same name, instead of replacing the folder that's there, windows now "merges" the folders. I at least set it so that it tells me. But how do you actually replace the folder with the new
one?

The box that comes up when you try to do it doesn't even make sense. It's titled "Confirm Folder Replace". But there is no option to replace the folder, you can only "merge". So why would they give it that title? You're not confirming replacement of a folder
at all.

Before you copy the folder to the file destination, you need to change the folder name first.

Based on your description, we suggest that you can do it all over again as follows:

• Open OneDrive settings on your computer.
  
• Go to the "Accounts" tab and click on "Unlink this computer".
  
• Restart your computer.
  
• Delete the D:/OldOneDrive folder.
  

You can try renaming the old OneDrive folder to something else, then create a new OneDrive folder and set it as a local folder in the OneDrive app.

If the above does not work, then you can try the following steps:

• Open a "Command Prompt" on your computer (run as administrator).
  
• Type rd /s /q "D:\OldOneDrive" and press Enter.
  

This will delete the "OldOneDrive" folder and all its contents.

• Create a new folder in D:/ and name its OneDrive.
  
• Open the OneDrive application and log in.
  
• During the setup process, choose to change the OneDrive folder location to D:/OneDrive.
  

Please note that this will permanently delete the "OldOneDrive" folder and all its contents, so please ensure that you have backed up all your important data.
