  1. Confusion About Latest NET Framework Cumulative Update

I've just automatically received the new updates today on my Windows 10 22H2 system; they were downloaded and installed without issue, however I'm greatly confused because there was no NET Framework Cumulative Update presentthe updates were the latest Cumulative Update, the latest update for Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, and a 2024-05 Update for Windows 10 I went ahead and just applied them all, restarted, and then clicked Check For Updates again; there was no NET Framework update. I looked in the UpdateClient event logs and it said multiple times after initially downloading the oth

  2. Microsoft .NET Framework, Unhandled exception

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to un-check and recheck .Net framework 3.5 and .Net framework 4.6 advance series from Windows features.

    Try the following steps:

    • Press Windows + R keys to open Run command.
    • Type Appwiz.cpl and select "turn Windows feature on or off" from the left
    • Uncheck .Net framework 3.5 and .Net framework 4.6 advance series.
    • Restart the computer
    • Repeat step 1 and 2 and check .Net framework 3.5 and .Net framework 4.6 advance series.
    • Restart the computer.
    Regards,

KB4586876 Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 Windows 10 Jan. 12 Win Update

    Hi Denis:
Thank you for your detailed instructions!! This will probably take several days & I'll keep you updated.

I did steps 1 & 2. This installed more updates than I could count...something like 20-30. However, KB4586876 was not listed. Unfortunately, I had to undo several things (I now remember why I didn't update all MS products). I have Word, Excel, & Access from 2003, as well as Word & Access 2016. Updating MS products caused a "file validation" problem whenver I opened a .doc file. I fixed that (with a registry hack). However, it did something to Word 2016, where all my .doc & .docx files were opened by Word 2003 & Word 2016 wasn't an option under "Open with...". I ended up restoring everything from Macrium Reflect.

I will now start with step 3.2.

Thank you. After checking again, my settings are the same as yours. Also, As Denis pointed out, I had looked at the wrong key. I checked the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full & found it to be the same as yours.

    Hi @Try3 & @Ghut:

I tried to install the runtime from Ghut post #22 (Denis: your Step 4.2) & it said that I already had the latest versions installed. I then tried to reinstall .Net Framework & went to the catalog:
PHP Code: 2021-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64 (KB4586876)
    Last Modified: 1/8/2021
but I couldn't download it. Basically, nothing happened & I got this image:

Confusion About Latest NET Framework Cumulative Update 315204d1611091631t-kb4586876-cumulative-update-net-framework-3-5-4-8-windows-10-jan-12-a-image.png

    I tried Step 5.2 in post #26, but I show both 3.5 & 4.8 installed.

I guess I'll try Step 6.2 now...turning off .NET Framework 3.5 &4.8 & turning them back on. Before I do, do I need to reboot in between. I don't want to screw this up.

Thanks again to both of you!!

  4. Confusion About Latest NET Framework Cumulative Update

    KB5022728 Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8, and 4.8.1 (21H2) Win Update

Woops, MS is too late to address the .NET Framework 4.8.1 February 2023 security update can't be installed in several machines installed with Windows 10 21/22H2. Symptom:
    • The .NET Framework 4.8.1 February cumulative update, KB5022498 will not install. This is an issue only occurs after installing the .NET Framework 4.8 February cumulative update, KB5022502, then upgrading to .NET Framework 4.8.1 then scanning for updates.
Workaround: Applying the following steps will allow KB5022498to be installed:
    • Uninstall 4.8 February update (KB5022502 )
    • Run command from elevated Command Promp: dism/online /cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
    • Scan for windows update again, 4.8.1 February update (KB5022498) installs as expected.
    Resolution:
    • On March 29, 2023, KB5022498 was re-released to correct this issue.
