Confusion over best selection of Wi-Fi channels for 2 devices

In order to extend my wired network and Wi-Fi signal throughout my house, I've connected an older wireless 801.11ac router as an access point via Ethernet cable to my router. Both devices have the ability to "auto- select" the best channels for reception.

The access point and the router have set themselves to different Wifi channels. Is this what I want or should I try to change the access point channels to match the channels selected by my router?

I'm also confused about naming my SSID. Should all devices (I also have a power line extender) share the same SSID? Is there a naming protocol I should follow?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    :)

    HTC HD7 - WiFi n ?

The HD7 supprt Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11 b/g/n , but make sure you select the right channel as if the channel is 13 in linksys for example it will be 2.47Ghz which will not show when you try to find it , but changing the channel to 1 or 2 or 3 for 2.41Ghz it
    will show and will connect.

    Best Regards A.

  3. USB Tethering for Windows Phone 10 Internet Sharing

USB tethering would save me a lot of pain.

At the moment, I'm having to use blue tooth tethering at the office because over the past 2 to 3 weeks something in the environment is interfering with the Lumia Wi-Fi Hotspot 2.4 GHz Channel 11 broadcast. Connecting to the phone's Wi-Fi Hotspot in the
office results in dropped ping packets and disconnects - the Wi-Fi hotspot is unusable. Bluetooth gets around the issue, but then I'm limited to just over 1.6Mbps download.

Outside of the office, the Wi-Fi Hotspot works perfectly and is very fast and stable.

Although I'm still trying to figure out the source of the interference in the office in regards to sharing a hotspot via Wi-Fi, USB tethering would be a preferable workaround to Bluetooth, and having USB tethering as an option would help get around situations
when environmental conditions make Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi unreliable.

I would also like to see the ability to modify the Wi-Fi hotspot Network Band and Network Channel emitted by Windows 10 Mobile so that if you find yourself in a Wi-Fi saturated workplace, you can adjust the hotspot to a less congested channel and/or band.
Nonetheless, USB tethering would be preferable than having to fiddle with Wi-Fi bands and channels.

    Sincerely,

    Mike Nichols

Confusion over best selection of Wi-Fi channels for 2 devices

Welcome to the forum. Keep both routers on different channels or they will interfer with each other. You can have all SSID the same but it's better to have them different so you know which one your connected to so you can login to the best one that's closes

    Hi Samuria,
Okay thanks for clearing that up. Just to be sure I have this correct, the SSID on each device can be anything I want but I should name it to be recognizable to me for each particular device for future troubleshooting.

As for the channel selection of each device I should probably download a free Wi-Fi analyzer and load that software onto my laptop. From there I'd take the laptop and monitor what the strongest channel is in particular rooms of my house and set the device to function on that particular selected Wi-Fi channel.

Or is the "auto select" feature perfected enough nowadays to let the device decide for itself then and there, keeping the "auto select" feature active for ongoing adaptation for the future changes based upon my neighborhood's usage/activity?
    TIA, John
