Connected via WiFi but only ethernet network icon shows in Tray

Here's a strange one. I am connected via Wifi, everything works fine, fast, stable. But I just noticed the icon showing in my Tray area is the wired ethernet icon. (No RJ45 cable connected, no docking station).

Is this a bug or a feature?

system tray wifi icon changed after using Shareit

so, i was using ShareIt on my windows 10. when i closed it, i still found my system tray that an ethernet icon was showing with no internet access where it used to show wifi icon. still it is showing that ethernet icon only unless i connect to a wifi network.
and as soon as i disconnect it, it again starts showing that same no internet ethernet icon. How to change it back to the wifi icon ?

Computer Cannot Detect any Wifi Networks

First, I don't see the WiFi category listed which tells me you don't have a wifi device connected/on.

If you don't have a wifi device you are connected through your ethernet, yes?

Was there a cable connected when you made that screen shot?

The system tray indicates you have an ethernet connection.

The system would display a wifi icon if the connection is wifi.

If you have no connections, should see the ethernet icon with an red dot with X in the center.

If you have a wifi device connected/on and not connected to a network. You should see the wifi icon with a star on the top/left corner on the icon.

All that said. Something is screwy with the "Settings > Network & Internet".

If you're using Hyper-V, then it will show the Ethernet icon even though you're using Wireless, because*Hyper-V doesn't technically support wireless, and creates a*bridge network to bridge the wireless and Ethernet.
