New Windows 11 laptop won't connect to printer shared by a win10 machine - it sees the printer, and lets me select it, but when I click OK it says "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Network name is no longer available" - but it is available and accessible by the other computers.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you would like to connect the printer to Windows 10 running machine.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Log in to your Windows 10 computer with an administrator account.
    • Connect the printer to the PC.
    • Click on the Start button from the desktop.
    • From the Start menu, click Settings.
    • From the SETTINGS window, click Devices.
    • Once the DEVICES window opens up, from the left pane, select the Printers & scanners category.
    • From the right pane, under the Add printers & scanners section, click Add a printer or scanner.
    • Wait until Windows searches for the connected printer.

Note: If Windows finds the printer, you can click its name and can follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process. If Windows fails to detect the printer, you can continue to next step.
    • If Windows is unable to detect the connected printer, please click the

    • From the Install the printer driver window, from the list of printer manufacturers in the left section, click to select the one to which the connected printer belongs.
    • From the right pane, locate and click to select the specific model of the printer that is connected to the PC.

Note: At this point, you can also click the Have Disk button and browse and locate the driver for the connected printer if you have downloaded it manually from its official website.
    • Click Next and proceed to the next step.
    • From the Printer Sharing window, make sure that the Share this printer so that others on the network can find and use it radio button is selected.

Note: If you do not want to share the printer with the network users, you can select the Do not share this printer radio button and jump to step 20.
    • In the Share name field, type a short share name for the printer.

Note: The name you specify here will be displayed to the remote users when they search for this printer over the network.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Connecting a new windows 11 laptop to an existing printer shared by a windows 10 pc fails.

Cannot connect to shared printer Error code: 0000001b

    Hello!

Yesterday our printer failed, so we replaced it with a new one. I shared it so other colleagues can print. When I tried to connect to the shared printer wither from Devices & Printers or from Network, I got the error code 0000001b. All computers are running Windows 10 v21H2, network is set to Private, sharing is enabled. I read elsewhere that I should uninstall some recent Windows updates. I found no matching update in the list. Also elsewhere suggested to enable SMB 1.0, didn't work. Any other solution?

    Thank you in advance.
