Windows 10: Connecting a Scanner

I have an Epsom RX560 (Printer/Scanner/Copier)

When Connected to Windows 10, it recognised the Printer straight away.

No need for the Install disk, it was up and running in just a couple of minutes and even without the install disk the results are picture perfect.

But how do I get it to Scan?

Is there somewhere in Windows 10 where it would recognise the Scanner instead of the Printer, or would I have to use the Install disk.

Connecting a scanner

My EPSON printer is connected as a printer but doesn't come up as a brand when trying to connect it as a scanner.

 

You can use the built in program Windows Fax and Scan. There is also a Scan App but I've never used it. You should also have got software from from Epson when you bought your printer/scanner/copier. That was my point, the Scanner is on the install disk and so is the Printer but Windows 10 didn't need it for the Printer, so my question relates to whether or not Windows 10 needs the Install disk for the Scanner.

There is a lot of stuff on the Install Software that I could do without.

Surprisingly the Printer Prints out Photos just as well without the need for putting the Software on there.

No need to keep putting ticks in boxes about what Paper you're using and whether you want it enhanced, it just seems to find its own way there.

So I might take a look at the Scanning App and then see what happens.

 

I have a old 1999 Epson scanner which I managed to get working in Windows 10. There are many more scanning features in the Epson Scan software than provided by Windows Fax & Scan. You might be better off with the Epson software if you are doing more 'complex' scans. The same may apply to the Epson printer driver - it all depends how complex your printing & scanning needs are.

I looked at the User Guide for your scanner/printer and it does have Epson Scan which is what I generally use and find superior to Windows Fax & Scan.

Incidentally , you need to ensure a 64 bit TWAIN driver is installed to control the scanner. Windows 10 may have installed this for you. If not, you will need to install the Epson driver.

My printing needs are Basic and Windows 10 does it just fine and the Scanner is something I would rarely use, except when you need it, you need it.

I want to keep away from all the bloat ware, so I might go and give the Scanning App a try.

 

Hey folks,
The latest Windows 10 update caused my scanner to loose communication. The scanner program would not even try to open. After reinstalling the utilities and drivers from Epson support (which includes Win 10) I had the same problem.
Finally I found a way to make it work. Under the compatibility tab I selected to run as an administrator. Worked exactly as it did before Windows 10 update wrecked it. note: The new utilities and drivers installed improved printing quality, no more half printed lines when using Adobe Reader.

Review:
Epson WF-2540 would not communicate (even though printer worked)
Right click scanner icon
Select properties
Select compatibility
Check 'Run as an Administrator'
Apply changes (save)?
Worked as well as before.
