Connecting to Windows 10 from Windows 7 fails.

I have a Windows 7 laptop and a Windows 10 desktop which are both connected to the same WiFi network.

They are both visible on the network. I can connect to the Windows 7 laptop from a MacPro (shh!) using a local account, but I can't connect from the windows 7 to windows 10 or vice-versa. I can't connect to the Windows 10 desktop from my MacPro either.

On the Windows 7 laptop the Windows 10 desktop is visible.

If I left click on it I get a Windows Security window inviting me to enter a network password.

I get the message Login failure: unknown username or bad password.

If I try Use another account and just type a username it comes back displayed as <Win7 domain>\<username>

I still get the same failure if I type <Win10 domain>\<username>

If I right click and select Connect with Remote Desktop Connection I get a window Initiating Remote Connection.

After a few seconds it fails.

    The failure reasons are:

    1) Remote Access to the Server is not enabled.

    2) The remote computer is turned off.

    3) The remote computer is not available on the network.

I don't believe that 2 or 3 are relevant as I can see it on the network and I'm using it!

On the Windows 10 desktop the Windows 7 laptop is visible.

If I left click on it I get a failure \\<computer name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

Remote Desktop Connection fails in the same way as on Win7.

I have tried starting the following services on the Windows 10 desktop:

    Function Discovery Resource Publication

    Function Discovery Resource Host

    UPnP

    SSDP was already running.

ps. I've only just got the Windows 10 desktop and I've never used Windows 10 before, although I have used Windows machines for a very, very long time (it seems like forever!)

This is so very frustrating and any help or guidance will be much appreciated.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  3. Installing Windows 10 using Windows 7 key

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.

Windows 10 Snipping Tool on Windows 7

All it is is one extra step beyond what is native to windows 10. Yes, technically it would be easier to have the functionality of print built in to the Windows 7 version, but you just have to save it ,and right click on it ,and print.

As far as getting the windows 10 version into windows7. I know there was a way to get the old winpaint, so maybe there's a way to get the snipping tool into 10, I don't know.

im curious if i could compress, and upload the application to this post? 7zip doesnt seem to be allowed
