Connection drops completely when trying to use the Internet

I upgraded to Win10 yesterday. upgrade could be a keyword for the future but since I upgraded everything has been perfect except my connection to the Internet. It's fine on startup but once I go on Edge, Chrome, steam or Skype it stops about 3 minutes in when using them. It doesn't come back unless I restart.

I'm using a Ethernet connect. All wireless devices are working fine, My LAN adapter is a Broadcom Netlink Gigabyte Ethernet. Turning router off and on again doesn't work. All drivers are up to date, apparently. No vpn.
I removed my McAfee to see if that changed anything but still no luck.

I don't know what to do now because this goes beyond my knowledge of windows 10 and computers.
My PC is over 5 years old, maybe that's a factor but it still surpassed all the requirements to run Windows 10

This brings me back to Upgrading and not full fresh install. I've too many family photos and other valuable projects. I dont have an external hard drive either, which I need soon as my current one is getting louder, but that's not the issue here

I just want to get on the Internet and enjoy my 120mb Internet speed! If someone can help me with my first world problem that'd be great and I know there's loads of issues like this but non have helped me
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

P.s I typed this on my phone while in frustration after two days of trying to get this to work so I apologise if I've made mistakes or a lack of information

    :)

  2. Unable to access internet

about a dozen updates came in this morning. I installed all of them. I AM STILL NOT ALLOWED TO SURF USING CHROME OR MOZILLA. When I try, the internet connection drops out completely. Stop patting yourselves on the back and solve some problems.

    Windows store download speed

    Hi,

Urm, I kind of disagree with you. I'm on a wired connection, so I very rarely get drop outs. You said one of the reasons is my internet connectivity, but my internet might drop out once every 24 hours. That is not a problem. The problem is when the internet
does drop, your download errors. That's not right! It doesn't happen on steam or EA games stores, so why yours!? You need a simple bit of code to manage the download, keep track on the local system of what files have been downloaded and save it to a text file,
if the internet drops out, read the text file first and then resume download in the correct position.

The fifth attempt and 3rd day of trying I managed to download it completely, I know longer have an issue.

Connection drops completely when trying to use the Internet

I'm having the same issue bud. Driving me crazy.

Internet works fine for a while and then randomly goes to "limited connectivity. "

I've tried refreshing TCP/IP, completely uninstalled Bitdefender, tried updating the network adapter driver. I also have a Broadcom like you and I also upgraded.

I'm at my wits end with this. If you figure anything out please let me know and I'll do the same.

Anyone have any insight on our issue?

Will do mate, I thought I had a glimmer of hope by plugging the Ethernet cable into a different slot in the router, worked from about two minutes then back to same problem. I'm wondering if different programmes are causing the issue but it could be the adapter/ Broadcom

Also getting this with a Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Adapter in a Dell XPS 8300. It's working longer for me, though - up to 12 hours but then the ethernet connection will just stop working. I tried disabling then enabling the adapter, but this doesn't work - it won't enable again once disabled and a reboot is necessary.

I've updated the driver to the latest (Jan 2015) from the Broadcom site. OK so far, but it's only been 5 or 6 hours.

I couldn't work without two days of Internet, very frustrating, downgraded to Win7... Didn't end up very well, all in all my PC is in a computer repair place, the guy running the shop told me he had the same issue and told me I joined the lab rat club. Hopefully he can look into my hard drive issue too. Not going to update to Win10 until a fix for the Broadcom Netlink adapter can be fixed for certain

If you do a fresh install all your files goes to your windows.old folder, so no need to worry about your files.

If you can try and delete your network driver through device manager and then scan for hardware changes, and let windows for the driver for you. This works most of the time.

However, since your computer is kind of old, see if you can find your drivers from your PC's website as a back up.

Can't do that now. I sent my PC to a repair shop because Windows10 deleted some important windows 7 files meaning when I went to downgrade I got stuck in a infinite system repair startup loop. Hard drive failed catastrophically so I have to spend 240 euros on a new one. I didn't have a backup either, just me being ignorant, because these things never happen to you right? Only the really unlucky guy nobody knows about. Well that's me. I'd advise anyone, backup backup backup. Just do it. Don't want to end up like me, the really unlucky guy nobody knows about.

I tried that when I had Windows10 btw, but deleting the driver always ended up in the programme not responding so it'd never work.

I hope Broadcom can do something in the future to fix this issue. I'm slightly frustrated at this, but it's what I get for jumping on the hype train. Annoying that it was a stupid network adapter that cost me 240 euro

  10. Sucks for you bro. Did you do a clean install or an upgrade. Never do upgrades. In this scene, you had to because Microsoft needed everyone to do upgrades, in order to get a free Windows 10 copy. I did the same with my brothers tablet then I did a clean install, and it was still activated, he had no Internet problems and I fixed it the way I stated in this thread. His desktop had a problem where the Internet would drop, I fixed that too the same way.

Like mention though it may not work for everybody.

I was having the same problem and rolled back to an earlier driver for the Broadcom and haven't had a drop since doing so last night. After looking around the internet for a solution I found this thread which dealt with the same problem upgrading to Windows 8: Solved Windows 8.1 loses wired internet connection That thread points to the problem being the with the Broadcom driver and the solution is to go back to an earlier driver. They point to using this driver as the solution: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/...77&lid=4964971
I don't know if this will work for everyone, and I'm still waiting to see if I have any further drops as well.

I have a Dell XPS 8300 (Late 2010) computer. It's too early to tell if this solves the problem, but I went into the "Device Manager" [Right click the Start Menu button and left click on Device Manager] and located my Ethernet card under "Network Adapters" and right clicked on it and then selected "Properties", then I clicked on the "Power Management" tab and unticked all the entries in that tab, then clicked on OK. Since doing that, the problem hasn't re-occurred, but it has only been a few hours. Fingers crossed.

Connection drops completely when trying to use the Internet

Is that for Wifi or wired ethernet? It's been a few days since I rolled back my driver as indicated in my earlier post and still no drops on wired connection.

Same damn problem and it is very annoying. I have made a shortcut and have to enable it to see if that works, if that doesn't, I have to reboot, then enable and works most of the time. I really hope there is a patch for this annoying issue.
