Windows 10: connectivity from Power BI to Dynamics 365 Online while we get data

Hi Team,

I'm trying to connect to Dynamics 365 CRM Online CRM from Power BI Desktop, I am getting login issues. It gives me below error ""OData: The given URL neither points to an OData service or a feed:"

I have tried all the possible solutions available in all the blogs. But I feel the credentials are corrupted and been logged somewhere. I'm unable to find it.

Please assist.

Microsoft Releases New and Improved Power BI Preview

Today is an incredibly exciting day as we unveil the new Power BI – a service we believe will fundamentally transform the “business of business intelligence.” Power BI can help every company adopt a data culture with easy-to-use, accessible tools and innovative technology that lowers the barrier to entry, for all.

For those not familiar with Power BI, it is a cloud-based business analytics service (software-as-a -service) for non-technical business users. With just a browser – any browser – or a Power BI mobile app, customers can keep a pulse on their business via live operational dashboards. They can deeply explore their business data, through interactive visual reports, and enrich it with additional data sources. We launched the first version of Power BI last February and since then customers have used it to gain powerful insights, helping them become more productive and competitive.

Meet the new Power BI

Available in preview today, Power BI’s new business analytics experience makes it easy for customers to:

Sign up – All you need is a business email address and you’re in.

Connect – Connect to your data in minutes, with built-in connectors and pre-built dashboards and reports from a wide variety of sources including GitHub, Marketo, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Salesforce, SendGrid and Zendesk. More are coming in the next few months including Inkling Markets, Intuit, Microsoft Dynamics Marketing, Sage, Sumo Logic, Visual Studio Application Insights, Visual Studio Online, and many more. And Power BI is “hybrid” by design, so customers can leverage their on premise data investments while getting all the benefits of our cloud-based analytics service.

Use – With a new tool – Power BI Designer – that allows business analysts to connect to, model and visually analyze their data. They can then effortlessly publish the results to any Power BI customer. We also released a preview of Power BI for iPad – now available for download from the Apple App Store. Later this year we’ll also introduce iPhone, Android and Windows universal apps.

Today, anyone with a US business email account can try the preview of the new Power BI for free. We’ll expand to international users in the future. When we reach general availability we will introduce a free offer, available as Power BI. We’ll also introduce Power BI Pro, available at a low monthly price, with additional data capacity and features for the enterprise. In anticipation of this move, on February 1 we are lowering the price of our in-market Power BI service to $9.99 per user a month, a 75 percent reduction in price. Announcing Availability of Power BI gateway for enterprise deployments

With Power BI gateways, you can keep your data fresh by connecting to on-premises data sources. The gateways provide the flexibility you need to meet individual needs, and the needs of your organization. Today, we’re happy to announce the general availability of the Power BI Gateway for enterprise deployments, which enables centralized and IT-managed access to on-premises data sources for organizations/ departments. Get started and download the enterprise gateway.

Key new features since Preview:

We’ve added these new features after we announced the preview on Dec 2, 2015.

Support for live connection to on-premises SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services, and SAP HANA databases from Power BI service

The enterprise gateway now supports connecting to Analysis Services (tabular and multi-dimensional) models and SAP HANA databases, in addition to SQL Server databases. Support for additional data sources is planned to be added over the coming months.

Support for security groups as part of access control lists for data sources

Gateway administrators can now control who can publish reports that connect to a data source, by adding AAD security groups, in addition to users. This was the most requested feature during preview.

Restore/takeover gateway

Gateway administrators can now restore, migrate or takeover an existing gateway by providing the recovery key they entered during configuration of the gateway. This way, you can move the gateway to a different computer without having to re-create data sources and re-enter credentials.

Performance counter collection

You can now view performance counters for the gateway on the server/computer on which it is installed for monitoring and to diagnose any issues.

In addition to these features, we’ve made number of usability fixes and bug fixes based on the feedback in preview.

Upgrading from Analysis Services Connector

On Dec 22, 2015, we announced that Power BI Gateway – Enterprise supports connections to Analysis Services models and published an upgrade guide for current users of Analysis Services Connector to help you upgrade your existing reports and dashboards. The enterprise gateway supports connecting to multi-dimensional models in addition to tabular models and provides better performance.

With the GA of enterprise gateway, we will stop downloads and configuration of any new Analysis Services connectors. The existing Analysis Services connectors are planned to be supported for two more months until Mar 31, 2016.

To help you upgrade your current dashboards and reports that connect to Analysis Services models we published an upgrade guide, which is available here. You can install the enterprise gateway alongside Analysis Connector as well.

Roadmap:

Here are some features in the pipeline that we plan to enable soon:

Scheduled refresh: Scheduled refresh for data sets is planned to be supported soon through enterprise gateway, in addition to personal gateway.

Support for additional data sources: We plan to support additional data sources that can be configured using the enterprise gateway.
