  1. Consistent crashing of Windows Explorer on Windows 10

I have read several posts and nothing seems to fix permanently the issue that I am having.

Out of the blue, every now and then, Windows Explorer crashes. It sits there and after a few minutes gives me a popup indicating that it is not working. The end result is that I typically have to open up Task Manager, select Windows Explorer and 'End Task'. I then go down to the bottom and select Windows Explorer again and 'End Task'. Then I click the File / Run New Task / check the "Create this task with administrative privileges' and click OK. Windows Explorer starts up again. But sometimes it works for awhile before crashing and sometimes it crashes right off the bat.

This has been going on for weeks and, frankly, I am sick of it. It is interfering with my ability to work when I have to actually SHUT DOWN the computer and restart just to be able to use Windows Explorer for awhile.

And YES I have followed some of the instructions listed in other posts.

    Hi Luke,

I will certainly help you with the Windows Explorer crashing issues.

This might be happened due to the conflict between system services and third party applications.

In order to understand more about the query please answer the below questions.

    1. What is your make and model of the PC?

    2. Is there any Antivirus software installed on your PC?

Mean time I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1: Windows Update.

Please complete all the pending Windows updates available.

Go to settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Check for Update.

    Method 2: Reset Windows Explorer.

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc and locate for Windows Explorer.

    2. Right click on the Windows Explorer and click on End task.

    3. On top of the Task Manager click on File and click on Run new task.

    4. Type explorer.exe inside the box and hit Enter.

Method 3: Update the Display Driver.

    1) Use Windows key + R and type Devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

    2) Right click on your display adapter and update.

Or please download and install the latest version of display driver from the manufacturer’s website and check if it helps.

Please get back to us with an update and we are glad to assist you further.

    Thank you

I have an Alienware R7, Intel i7-8700 CPU @ 3.7Ghz, 16GB Memory, 1TB Solid State Drive and I am on Xfinity/Comcast Internet with download speeds between 150-190mbps and upload 22-27mbps.

Now I do use Google File Stream for primary file storage but that shouldn't be an issue.

Also, a couple months ago, I paid Microsoft Support to have a tech to check this out 'remotely' and he basically did everything that I do each time it crashes. Big waste of time and money.

So can 'anyone' give me any insight as to why this is consistently happening on a computer that will only be a year old on November 25, 2019!!

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Windows explorer crashing

    Hi,

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.

    Thanks in advance.

Microsoft Internet Explorer renamed to Windows Internet Explorer ?

Consistent crashing of Windows Explorer on Windows 10 wie1.png

Since version 7 of the world`s most popular web browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer was silently renamed to Windows Internet Explorer.Such a step from Microsoft is not a surprise since Internet Explorer is part of the Windows operation system for a long time.Obviously Microsoft corp. wants to state that Internet Explorer is already considered as a part of Windows and not as an external browser (remember the IE and WMP law issues last year!?).
