    contents of my Document, Music & Pictures lost after latest windows update on 2nd Oct. The new document is now pointing to my OneDrive folder instead. All my documents not there. How can I retrieve?

    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Have you updated your computer from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10?
    • Have you tried using Cortana and search for the files and folders?
    • Have you troubles the troubleshooting steps provided on this

    Windows 10 update lost my documents/my pictures/my music.

    I don't know what happened but I lost all my documents and music and pictures along with my favorites when I upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I checked the windows.old folder and they are nowhere to be found. Is there anyway to get my old documents
    back and my old music? if not then why would Microsoft not let me know that I needed to back up everything before I upgraded? If anyone has any suggestions could you please help me?

    The way Windows 10 File explorer displays things can give the impression that files are lost when they are not.

    Your files are in these folders and you can get through to look at them in File explorer -

    • C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents,
    • C:\Users\YourUserName\Desktop,
    • C:\Users\YourUserName\Pictures,
    • C:\Users\YourUserName\Music,
    • C:\Users\YourUserName\Videos,
    • C:\Users\YourUserName\Downloads.

    Confusion can be caused by the entries File explorer shows within the This PC section.

    • It contains what appear to be folders called Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Music, Videos, Downloads.
    • But these are not real folders.
    • They are in fact a special type of shortcut to the C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents etc folders where your files really are.

    If I have not explained what you needed then please post a diagram showing the multiple locations you are concerned about. You can use this to help you -
