Windows 10: Continued Printing Problem Since Windows Update 1909

To rehash, on June 11th, I posted to the community...



My wife's computer installed the Windows update yesterday, but today when she attempted to print to our networked Brother HL-4040CN, it would not print, not even a test page. It printed fine the day before. I attempted to troubleshoot, and tested printing from my laptop, which was successful. I then noticed that my laptop had received updates and was waiting for a reboot to apply the updates. I rebooted, and now my laptop does not print either.

I received a response from forum member Rhaine, to uninstall the update KB:4560960, and that restored printing.


On June 18th, I posted again to the community...


After uninstalling the update, which solved my printing problem, my computer's automatic updates reapplied version 1909, and it broke printing again. I blocked updates on my wife's computer so that it would not stop her printing, and hers remains working.


Yesterday I received the update version 2004, which ZDNet reported as fixing the printing issue. I attempted to print today after the update, and printing is still broken. I can see that printing quickly queues up a job that goes away and never gets to the printer like another poster reported on my thread.


Do I need to contact Microsoft with some sort of bug report so that they are aware of this issue, or do they follow this support group and recognize the bug? It may be that they solved the USB printing issue, but not this one.



So, to summarize my last question, is there something more I need to do to let Microsoft know about this continued printing issue that wasn't resolved in update 2004?

Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

Steps to confirm issue:

• Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
• Secondary drive not visible in device manager
• Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

Steps to replicate issue:

• Installing 1909 update

Steps to resolve issue:

• Uninstall 1909 update

Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.

 

User.000 issue after updating to 1909

I'm one of the many people suffering from issues with user profiles after applying Update 1909 to Windows 10. I've read all the threads I can find on the topic here and have followed the suggestions, all to no avail. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

After applying Update 1909, the ProfileImagePath was changed to c:\users\User.000
One file that was always in use and couldn't be removed was left in c:\users\User (can't recall or find the exact file now), so I could never rename or remove the c:\user\User directory.

I followed the multiple suggestions from Brink and others:

• Rebooted at least 6 times
• Enabled hidden Administrator
• Booted into Safe Mode
• Changed ProfileImagePath
• Tried to rename c:\users\User but couldn't because a file was still in use
• Copied all data from c:\users\User.000 into c:\users\User
• Rebooted and had temporary profile
• Followed steps in Brink tutorial to change ImageProfilePath; rebooted with no change
• Restored using Restore Point from before Update 1909 - returned to single profile state (User.000)
• Removed each update that was installed individually and rebooted after each update removal - profile state never changed
• After all updates were removed, repeated the steps above with hidden Administrator, changing profile, etc. - same issue with file in use in c:\users\User
• Followed all steps above with hidden Administrator but without copying files from User.000 to User - same results

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

 

Print to PDF missing in Printer List

Hi William,

We suggest that you disable and re-enable the Print to PDF feature. Here are the steps:

• Click on the Start menu and type in Windows Features.
• Choose Turn Windows features on or off.
• On the next window, find Microsoft Print to PDF and disable it. Click
  OK to save changes.
• Restart your PC.
• Repeat the same steps to re-enable Microsoft Print to PDF.
