Windows 10: Continuous problems with headphone jack, even though they work fine on other devices.

hello. my headphones on my computer refuse to connect half the time. sometimes, itll work completely fine and prompt me asking "hey are these headphones" and all that. other times, it will just never come up, because at least according to my devices list, and troubleshooting, it isn't connecting. even though it can connect, as clearly shown by me using them literally twenty minutes ago until i had to disconnect them. i dont think this is a hardware problem, though i guess i wouldnt know. i have already tried troubleshooting doesnt detect the headphones plugged in, also says the headphone jack

headphone and microphone jack not working

I am using windows 10 pro 16299, on an Acer laptop, the headphone and microphone jacks are one next to the other. I have been using Win10 for a long time, both devices worked just fine. Due to some reason, I reinstalled win10 OS yesterday, and both devices
were still working.

Today I left with my laptop on for an hour, when I came back, the headphone is not working, but if I unplug the headphone, the internal speakers do work fine. First I thought it was a driver problem, so I replaced the default driver (installed automatically
with the os), with Realtek one I found on Acer's support website, the problem remains the same, then I replaced wit with the latest version I found on Realtek's website, still the same problem. I can receive sound from the HDMI output headphone jack, and the
laptop internal headphone jack works under Linux.

Because I was not in front of the computer, I am not sure if something happened, but when I came back, there was no error or warning alert pop out window. Before I left, the system was seemed downloading some update, the headphone jack problem occurred before
I reboot and install the update.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

• When you say "Headphone jack", you mean Headphone plug in slot on your computer?
• Did you get any notification when you plug in the Headphone?

I suspect that the problem might lies with the Headphone plug in slot on your computer. Adding weight to this, I see you telling that every device fails to work when connected. Confirm the same by connecting them to another computer to see if they work fine.

Suggest you to check for the latest chipset drivers for your device from Manufacturer website. If you find any, then try to install them and see if they sort out issue. Also try as mentioned below.

* Go to System tray (I.e. bottom right corner) and right-click on
Speaker Icon and select Playback devices from context menu.

* Go to Playback tab.

* See if the plug in device listed there. If yes, then click and highlight the device and click
Set Default, click Apply/OK. Now see if it fix the issue.

If the above steps doesn't fix the issue, then once you plug in the device,

* Right-click on Start button and select Device Manager.

* Spot and expand Audio inputs and outputs.

* See if a drivers for the plug in device listed there. If yes double-click on it and see the status of the device under Device Status. This will give us the clue.
