  1. Conundrum with Windows 10 authenticity and upgradability, .Net Framework updates and upgrades.

    Good day Microsoft Community,

    I have a conundrum I hope you may be able to assist resolve.

    I purchased a decent i7 laptop with windows 10 pre-installed from a reputable and well known international company in August 2017. In January 2019 I accidentally closed the lid whilst it was updating duly corrupting the system. It was duly taken to the same shop it was purchased from to ensure it was repaired by a legitimate authorised technician.

    Received delivery of the repaired machine and all appeared to be in order until I attempted to install authentic CAD software via the website of a well known international CAD software company. After repeated failed attempts, and further investigation, it came was determined that the device had Windows 10 version 1511 installed and I needed 1607 or earlier to install the CAD. Further system requirements for the CAD was .Net framework 4.7 or earlier.

    I attempted to upgrade the Windows version only to be confronted with Windows pop up stating the Windows is not genuine and I would have to buy a genuine version in order to upgrade.

    Please forgive my ignorance with my queries but I am not an IT guru and after what I have read from the various forums and Microsoft website, I now need some clarification from the knowledgable individuals on the Community.

    To avoid a lengthy thread, I will provide the queries in this regard as follows;

    1. Per the laptop retailer and authorized technicians, the Windows does not have a COA as the product key is on the BIOS but per Microsoft website, there has to be a COA on the device somewhere. Please confirm this?

    2. Although the Windows displays the software is activated. Per the laptop authorized technicians, the Windows is up to date but still displays version 1511. Is this not supposed to change with the updates or do I need to purchase a more recent version to meet the system requirements for CAD?

    3. The .Net framework installed is version 4.2. Does this automatically update to 4.7 or is this something that needs to be installed separately? I have conflicting information in this regard so would appreciate clarification herein.

    Thanking you in advance for your time and assistance with my conundrum.

    :)
