Windows 10: Convert to GPT Disk Grayed Out in Windows Disk Management

I have initialized a new disk D which is not boot disc C as MBR, but after reading online it seems better to initialize at GPT as im running windows 11. However, when i attempt to convert from the disk from MBR to GPT in disk management, the GPT option is grayed out.Note, i have not partitioned the disk and its a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 1TB.Here is a link to the instructions i followed in windows support - Convert an MBR disk to GPT.https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/troubleshoot/windows-server/backup-and-storage/support-for-hard-disks-exceeding-2-tb

Converting a MBR disk to a GPT disk

I would put Windows on Disk 2. There is plenty of space. If you want to start with a clean slate then you should do this:

• Disconnect disks 0 and 1.
• Boot the machine with your installation medium.
• Launch diskpart.
• Select disk 0 (it was disk 2 before).
• clean.
• Reboot with your installation medium.
• Install Windows.
• When it runs nicely, connect the other disks and tell the BIOS which is the primary disk to boot from.

Since disk 2 is only 232 GBytes you will not need UEFI / GPT. After Windows is installed you can convert the 3 TByte disk to GPT.

Thanks for providing the detail that was requested previously. Since the disk management screen that you saw is showing greyed out options, we suggest that you follow the steps below to change the partition type of your internal drive:

• Open Disk Management then right click the partition on the disk you want to covert and select Delete Volume.
• Once you complete the process you will see the whole disk shown as two separate unallocated spaces. Right-click the disk and select Convert to GPT disk.

After the conversion, you will be able to use the whole disk and then you can create new separate partitions.

How to convert an MBR disk into a GPT disk

the asus board supports uefi 3.0 and all settings were tried already! the info you gave me converted the drive to gpt, but, it converted back to mbr after installation of clean windows! why is it doing that? it states on your site that win 10 supports
gpt and 32 bit with uefi 2.0 and above!
