Windows 10: Convert to JPG from DNG - having some issues

Hello,

I'm trying to convert a heap of DNG files to JPG. The main reason is that all I can get to view is the embedded thumbnail, never the actual image (I'm assuming that the original image in there *somewhere* as the file size is greatly larger than the image dimensions would likely allow for).

I've tried a few apps but either there's settings that I'm not using to do what I want to do or they don't do what I want to do (or have a 50 file convert limit...).

I would like to either, keep the DNG files but be able to view the original, non-thumbnail, image or convert the DNG and not end up with just the thumbnail.

Does anyone have suggestions or how to solve either, or both, of these issues?

(Windows 10 ver 1909 if it matters in this case)

Alright so I managed to find a solution which was the download Adobe Bridge and export the images. It's going much slower than the previous software I have tried but everything so far is opening up the original image, not the thumbnail.

.DNG files in Windows 10 (2018 update)

So, I'm having problems opening .DNG files from my Leica on my windows surface pro 3 running windows 10 1803. Double clicking on the file opens the Windows Photo app, and you see a brief flash of the "full size" photo then it ends up with what looks like
a low resolution thumbnail. Zooming on the final opened picture ends up with a very blurry photo.

Resetting the app (settings->apps->apps and features->advanced->reset) shows the blurry photo fit to the window (instead of a tiny thumbnail) but then when you close or double click on a .DNG again, it goes back to the previous issue, which means you see
a flash of the photo fitted to the app window, then it scales down to a thumbnail. At no point do you ever see a high resolution photo.

Opening the file (35MB) in Adobe Photoshop express or Lightroom gives you the high resolution photo.

Clearly, there's an issue with handling the .DNG file from the camera with the photo app. The only current solution is to download Adobe's DNG Converter 10.3 (available here: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 10.3) then "convert" the DNGs
to a DNG with a JPG preview, but this removes the ability to preview the photo in file explorer with the "large icons" setting. You see a regular photo file extension style icon, but if you double click, the file will come up in windows photo with a high
resolution photo.

Bottom line, how can I get *both* features? I'd like to get the preview of the photo in file explorer *and* high resolution photo in Microsoft photo. Or, should we just abandon the Microsoft photo app? Any suggestions?

Lumia 1020 - Some DNGs get corrupted

I am experiencing the exact same problem as you describe here, and I am curious if you were able to fix this problem?



I have been in contact with Adobe support and when looking at two example files, they concluded that the Adobe Raw Convertor aborts processing as it expects the file to be longer than it actually is in the file system. If this is correct, it seems that the
DNG write operation in the phone is aborted before complete. (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1853669)



Since the differenc in file size is about 1 kB, I was guessing that this might be some checksum that the 1020 skipped writing in the DNGs occasionally, althought this is not immeditaley supported by Adobe support findings.



I am able to convert the "bad" DNGs with a different converter ("RAW Converter" from Windows Store).



The error seems to affect around 1/3 of the DNGs stored by the phone, and dates back to late last year. Might coincide with the latest phone or camera update.
