Windows 10: Convert VLK/KMS -> Retail to Allow Auto Digital Entitlement Activation

I spent a day preparing a 10 Pro image for capture in a virtual machine intended to be deployed to numerous 10 Pro "digital entitlement" PCs upgraded from 7. I made the foolish mistake of using VLK media instead of retail media from the start. When I imaged the first PC, Windows activation rightly advises me it's unable to activate via KMS.

Now I'm left hoping I can overcome my mistake by file/settings adjustments to rip out my VLK/KMS mistake and successfully adjust it so that it will auto activate via the digital entitlements that all of these PCs have on file with Microsoft. (Ideally in the live virtual machine image so I can recapture/redeploy it, yet its worth knowing now to do it on an already imaged PC or the original install media)

One person suggested some utilities called KMS AutoNet or Microsoft Toolkit might be able to change the media type away from KMS to retail. I don't have experience with them just yet and below is info they output regarding the media.

I immensely appreciate advice as to overcoming my bonehead mistake.

No, the digital entitlement only applies to retail/OEM Windows 7 and Windows 8 license upgraded to Windows 10.

Windows 10 Enterprise must be activated using a volume license key or a KMS server.

You might want to consider starting over using a Genuine Microsoft Source versus a pre-activated copy that could possibly be infected with Malware, Trojans, Rats, Keyloggers etc.

 

The KMS AutoNet and Microsoft Toolkit are use to crack Microsoft software activation.

 

@Bat 1 @FreeBooter I asked my IT pro buddy if his January updated ISO came from a genuine Microsoft source. He indicated it had. He said he even confirmed the checksum after download apparently because he's had corrupt downloads in the past. He subsequently slipstreamed in vital updates and drivers before being kind to share the updated ISO with me. It's my fault for not realizing he added an ei.cfg file tagging the media as VLK.

I'm not an advocate stealing folks hard work. As my original post indicated, I'm dealing with PCs with genuine digital entitlements and asked how to switch Windows 10 from VLK to retail. I hope someone at TenForums can advise a non-taboo utility or guided commands that toggle from one licence type to another.

As for the couple taboo utilities folks suggested might help. They were actually correct about the ability of Microsoft Toolkit to easily fix the problem. I cannot vouch for KMS AutoNet as I tried MS Toolkit first and it fixed me up immediately. Microsoft Toolkit -> product keys tab - uninstall key. Then select "enter custom key" on the same tab, input the generic retail key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T and select "install." I re-captured the image, deployed it to a couple PCs and they successfully auto-activated with their digital entitlements.

I was just letting you know those two programs are mostly use to crack Windows software activation i never said you will use it for illegal means.

Those programs usually bundle with malware you should scan the computer you have use the Microsoft Toolkit just in case.


You can remove the installed product key from your current Windows system with Slmgr.vbs script.

The ei.cfg file wouldn't make any difference as I use a VL version all the time to get past the embedded Win 8.1 Core keys to install Win 10 Pro on PCs with a Digital License. I'm also well aware of what the various KMS emulators can do as I know all the developers quite well. *Redface I was going by the Pic above not knowing that you had personally installed the toolkit. I spent many years as a member of various Warez/torrent Sites and I'd regularly spend as much as 16 Hours a day downloading different uploads to check for Crapware. Next to IDM, the activators are the most infected uploads on the internet.

I don't know what type of Business or ???? the "Numerous" PCs are for, but I'd think that should they be use anywhere sensitive Data is stored, the risks may far outweigh the benefits of not starting over......
