  1. Cookies: When are they innocuous and when are they harmful?

Hello,I always thought cookies were just a way for websites to do internal accounting and/or tailor advertising for customers; however, I recently have been getting phishing/scam emails with my name claiming that I owe them money or that my credit card will be charged an automatic payment for products I've never ordered. Someone said these scammers found my information, meaning email and name, from cookies. How does this happen? Are some cookies dangerous and is there a way to distinguish those from basic cookies? Thanks,Daffy D

    :)

    Tracking cookies

Over the past few months , a plethora of tracking cookies has appeared on the web! Even some fairly innocuous sites which I occasionally visited over many years have started dumping tracking cookies on my pc! What is happening? AVG quarantines these cookies
as minor threats. Is there some way to prevent these cookies being dumped on my pc? It is a nuisance! Thanks guys

    Microsoft Edge and tracking cookies

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

A cookie is a small bit of data that a website can ask your web browser to store.
The data stores information about the user such as preferences or contents from a shopping cart. The number of tracking cookies may vary on the websites you visit. They are not harmful, however, they will consume some space on your computer.

Follow the below steps to clear the cache and cookies in MS Edge.

    • Click on the More actions (…) icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.

    • Select Settings and click on
      Choose what to clear
      .

    • Check the boxes Browsing history,
Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and
      files and click on Clear.

Hope this helps you. Post back if you need further assistance. We’ll be glad to assist you.

    Thank you.
