Windows 10: copilot preview has disappeared after restarting my laptop

Today, I was on my laptop doing something, and after I finished, I turned off my laptop. When I turned it back on to do something else, I noticed that my Copilot Preview button was gone from the taskbar. Normally, I use Windows + C to bring up Copilot, but it didn’t work. I tried using my Copilot key, but it brought up the normal app-like version of Copilot, which I’m not a fan of. With the Preview version, I could press Windows + C or my Copilot button once to open it and again to close it. With this new version, I can’t use Windows + C to open it, and the Copilot button on my keyboard only o

Copilot on Taskbar disappears

Copilot on the Taskbar has disappeared. Is there a way to get the Copilot preview back pinned to the Taskbar as before?

Group Policy Editor Link for W11 installation

Run as Administrator and allow to install

NB: MUST SELECT ENABLE first AS THIS ALLOWS APP TO TURN OFF THE PROGRAM

1. Open Local Group Policy Editor from the Windows search - type Gpedit.msc in the Run command and click icon
   

1. Navigate to the following folder in the Group Policy Editor window using the left panel:User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Copilot
   

1. On the right-side pane, double-click the 'Turn off Windows Copilot' policy.
   

1. Select 'Enabled' and click 'Apply' and then 'OK'. This allows the app to disable CoPilot
   
   Click 'Disabled' then Apply to turn off CoPilot

1. To re-enable Windows Copilot, follow the same steps and select 'Not configured' or 'Disabled'. Then, click 'Apply' and 'OK'.
   

If the Copilot button is visible in the taskbar, it will disappear after you apply the policy. You do not need to restart your computer or enforce the Group Policies. The Copilot option will also disappear from the Settings app.

 

Copilot randomly got removed from taskbar options.

I can understand how frustrating it is when an essential feature like copilot disappears unexpectedly.

Here are few steps to fix this issue.

1. Open Settings.
   
   Click on Personalization.
   
   In Taskbar, check if the Copilot toggle is off. If so, turn it on.
   
2. If Group Policy Editor isn’t working, try these steps:
   
   • Press Win + R, and enter gpedit.msc.
     
   • Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
     
   • Look for any policies related to Copilot and ensure they’re not disabled.
