I have a drive in one of my PCs running Windows 10 Pro that I primarily use to store lots of large files 5-30GB. I use this PC mainly as a server to store these files on, copying files to it over the network when I no longer need them on my main PC. However, I've started running into an issue that seems to have cropped up for a few people before, in that when I copy one of these large files to the PC the copy starts fine, then at about 5-10% completino the speed suddenly drops to anywhere between 0 and 2MB/s, with 355KB/s and 710KB/s being the most common readings as in the screenshot below:

I tried several fixes related to network copying that I found on various forum posts, however none of these seemed to help. I then tried to copy a large file onto the drive from a USB drive, as well as copying onto the boot drive and then moving over to the target drive locally, however both of these gave the same result as above. This led me to believe it was an issue with the drive itself, but the SMART data seems OK and running a chkdsk didn't seem to change anything. I then shut down the PC and took the drive out, popping it into a USB caddy and connecting it to my main PC, only to find that I could copy files onto it absolutely fine, but then putting it back into the PC took me back to square one, which then suggested Windows or the PC itself was at fault. BIOS and firmware updates didn't seem to help, so at this point I used Reset this PC but kept my apps and files, and this seemed to make the problem go away. However a couple of months later I'm back at the same point, and I'd really like to avoid regularly reinstalling Windows to solve this problem!

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Any help would be much appreciated!

    :)

    Java.nio.file - Copying files

You can't copy a folder, thats why it generates an exception (you are trying to copy a folder using a copy file function).
You probably need to list all the files inside that folder and copy one by one

    File copying speed questions

    Hello,
a few days ago while copying a file to my flash drive, and painfully watching the speed at 2Mb\s this subject kinda intrigued me (especially because my first thought was that something is wrong with my drive*Eek! Copy speed starts fine, then drops to 355KB/s - affecting local copying as well as over the...)

So anyway, say I'd like to copy a file from Drive A to B. From the little I know, copying speed should be determined by drive's A read speed, drive's B write speed, and the connection speed(usb 2\3, sata etc)?Essentially the copying speed being the slowest? Like in my case the write speed of my old USB drive?

Also why does the copy speed fluctuate? For example for my flash drive starts copying at about 6mb\s, and then for the most part stays at 2mb\s.Same happens with my SSD and HDD but thankfully at MUCH MUCH higher speeds *Respect :respect:
