Windows 10: Copying Files from Surface Pro 7 to an External Hard/Drive

    Copying Files from Surface Pro 7 to an External Hard/Drive


    I have Surface Pro 7 with 23 GB of the storage left. To free up some space, I bought WD My Passport Ultra 4 TB, Samsung T7 2 TB and Samsung T5 1 TB. But when I try to copy files from the PC into any of these external drives, windows claims I have no enough space on the local disk and that I need extra/additional space inorder to copy the files. What? I am copying the files to the external drives which have plenty of space, not into the local disk! Why does windows think my external drives are "local disks"? And how to I fix this, please?I don't want to go through the pain of reinstalling windo

    External Hard Drive

    Hi John,

    We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
    • Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.
    The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

    External hard drive not recognised

    Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.

    i bought my new surafce pro and tried connect WD external hard drive to it , but my surface is not detecting it
