Windows 10: Corrupted recycle bin, pop up disappeared after I’ve restarted the computer

Hello, It might sound like a stupid question but I have recently turned on my computer and got the corrupted recycle bin pop up it’s windows 10. I have then booted the computer to the safe mode but haven’t troubleshooted or entered any commands but turned off, deciding to leave fixing of the issue for later. When I turned the computer on again the pop us was gone and it booted normally. I was just wondering whether there is any likelihood that it is a virus/malware issue? I’ve run an avast scan and it came back clean but I might be slightly paranoid.Thank you in advance for your answer.

Recycle bin corrupted

I have a Western Digital external hard drive. It was assigned drive letter K: when I installed it. Recently, every time I start my computer (Windows 10), the following message pops up
"The recycle bin on drive K: is corrupted. Do you wish to empty the recycle bin?" Clicking on "Yes" or "No" makes the message go away but it reappears the next time I start the computer.

I use the external drive for back up and it seems to be working properly. There is no recycle bin on the external drive as far as I can tell. Emptying the recycle bin on drive C: did not help. I reinstalled the external drive but the annoying message still
appears each time I turn on or restart the computer. I tried a solution suggested for a question about this problem in 2015 but it did not correct the problem.

Corrupted recycle bin


When I turn on the computer each day, I get a message "The Recycle Bin on G:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this Drive\?" Drive G is where I have my Passport external drive for backup. Any suggestions on how to address and resolve this? Thanks.

To prevent your files from being deleted from the Recycle Bin, we suggest increasing the maximum file size your Recycle Bin can keep by following the steps below:

• Right click on the Recycle Bin icon.
• Under the Settings for selected location, select Custom size.
• Fill up the box for your allotted maximum file size for your Recycle Bin.
