I believe WU’s will eventually update you from 1511 going forward: it’s just a matter of time.
I know you want to stay with 1511 and have it configured, customized and optimized the way you want it but be prepared for constant manual 1511 usage which could become counterproductive. Microsoft is in charge of WU’s: even if you get the Pro version where you can delay WU’s, I believe there is a time limit where delaying them comes to an end. Since I’m not in the delaying WU’s method, I can only make this as a general comment.
badrobot has provided excellent recommendations on using system image backups which can help you stay with 1511 as long as you can
And I just noticed Berton's message and I certainly agree with that.

Additionally, I would like to mention, I have serviced XP, 8.1 & 7 computers in which WU’s were not kept up to date which eventually reached a time that caused many problems and I don’t see why the same thing can’t happen in Windows 10.

I know the difference between a backup and a backup machine. I need both.

I had instances when the hw failed and I was left without a machine for extended time--can't afford that.

I use one machine when working out of my office and one @home.

When I say I keep them in sync I mean that whatever I install or configure on one I do to the other. And I use OneDrive for syncing.

    Makes sense to me.

Your question has been answered - a licence is valid for all versions of windows 10.

Beyond that, you have not answered why you would stay on 1511 when it will stop being supported.

Intelligent thing to do is image backup current install, upgrade to 1703 and only revert to it if issues.

Dumb thing to do is stay on 1511 as you will need to block updates to avoid upgrading. Can you be certain you have been patched against wannacry for example.

If you are adamant about staying on 1511, then no point in continuing this thread.

Indeed. Sticking with a version of Windows that no longer receives updates is suicide. There WILL be more malware, viruses, worms, etc.. that will attack machines with certain vulnerabilities. If you can't get patched, you're just a target.

Whatever your reasons are for staying on 1511, can they be really be justified when you could easily have all your data ransomed? Yes, 1511 is currently supported, but not for much longer.

For someone that seems to be going to extremes to reduce your risk, it seems odd that you would take the greatest risk of all, and run unpatched machines.

The reason for 1511 can be found in OP's other thread, in which I gave up and unsubscribed: Create New User Profile for Myself - Windows 10 Forums, from post #8.

    Unsubscribing this thread, too.

Now I see replies in previous thead, I 100% agree with Kari - no point in replying to this guy anymore.

I wanted to include moving on with the modern version: you can maintain your system just the same: we all do that also.
I know you like staying with your tweaks, setup etc. but part of the computer world is adjusting to change.
Please follow the recommendations as mentioned by everyone else.

  9. There's no point of running a 1511 build.

A minimum of 4GB ram is fine for basic computing, go with lesser and you end up making the hard drive do the work because of page file.

If you're not planning to play old games with Windows 10, 1607 is fine. I can even play a 2005 game with this build.

We just don't want anyone to end up complaining about security flaws with the older build as it is not supported anymore.

No, not every license: an XP license requires a $200 expenditure on a Win10Pro license.

There is NO intelligence in any version from 1607 on -- it's a disaster area and anybody who thinks otherwise does not understand what an OS is. It is not a platform for MS to force faulty updates and frequent useless updates on users; it is not a platform for entertainment; it is not a platform for spying; it is not a platform for monetizing advertising. The new versions offer NO useful improvements over Win7 and exist only for the interests of MS, not users. What you are advising here would have been reasonably correct before Win10, but is no more.

You're entitled to your notion of what is intelligent, I am to mine. Don't censure what can and cannot be discussed this based on your notion. I am entitled to discuss here whatever I want and you are entitled to respond what you want and ignore it. So please--no dictatorship.

There is absolutely nothing for me in Win10 that I did not have in Win7. But my win7 computer croaked and the new one I got had 1511 on it -- it was not my choice. I was able to configure, customize and optimize it to my liking and make it look like 7. I cleaned all the useless but resource consuming bloat. I want to to keep it this way and not let MS decide what will run or not run on my computer. I also have scripts, utilities and methods to clean the bloat that will not work on later versions e.g., I completely eliminated Cortana and Edge and I don't want to see them again. Everything will return for any later version.

As to fear from damage, anybody who follows MS's updates and upgrades knows that they are more dangerous than hackers -- they just messed up phones and computers with 2 faulty updates. I practice safe computing and I take frequent backups. This is much, much safer than WIn10 updates and fixes, who normally lag hackers anyway.

Anybody who does not understand all this does not know enough about computing to advise others.
So you do your intelligent way and I'll do mine and don't patronize. Did I now answer your question?

No - you asked if same 10 pro licence was valid on builds of 10 pro - the answer is yes!

I have tried Linux more than once. The point is to find a solution, not to make things worse.

After decades of Windows I am too old to learn everything from scratch, look for equivalent apps, etc. I leave this to young guys.
    Life is too short.

  15. The above is totally wrong. Build 14393 is not bloated and you can do what yo did with 1511 Just use that tool and update to it and remove all you want. It is a solid OS and is bug free./
