Windows 10: Could a DNS change lead to my laptop WiFi disconnection?

For years, my laptop network connection has been perfectly stable. Then in early March the network disconnected. I was trying to collect emails or do some browsing or such like and was wondering why nothing was happening. Eventually I found that the wireless card had disconnected.


The question is: Could a DNS change lead to my laptop WiFi disconnecting?


I record most things that happen on my PC and the previous change was a new router four days earlier. I now seem to remember that I may have conducted a DNS investigation about that time but don't have any notes because changing the DNS wouldn't cause a delayed problem would it? It either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't you fix it there and then. If does work, well that's end of story, surely?


The disconnection events are most days but with no obvious coincidental events or timings.


On conducting weeks of research I began noticing one or two mentions about DNS but not overtly related to the disconnection. I just made me think. So I have just changed the wireless card settings as follows, where I have use the new DNS before.


DNS during disconnections

1ry DNS.....: 204.97.210.10

2ry DNS.....: 204.117.214.10


New DNS that have worked in the past

1ry DNS.....: 8.8.4.4

2ry DNS.....: 8.8.8.8


It's too early to say but there hasn't been an incident in the last 3 hours...


I ran this benchmark to find the servers above 204...

https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm and then I restricted the search to UK DNS.

• If you have an identical laptop try comparing the wifi and security settings of the one that does not disconnect with the one that does. If you find any differences change the settings of the one that does not work to the one that does.

Laptop disconnects from Wifi at random intervals


My laptop is randomly disconnecting from my new router. Sometimes it's every few minutes, sometimes it can be an hour or two in between disconnections. This only seems to effect wireless devices and I notice it most often on my laptop. The router is a Fritz!Box 7490 and is connected to 2degrees Internet. The message in the WLAN event log is :

[table][tr][td]Wireless LAN device deregistered itself (5 GHz). MAC address: 64:BC:0C:6A:79:62[/td] [/tr] [/table]

The weird thing is that if I disconnect from wifi and reconnect it re-establishes the connection near instantly. Sometimes it just shows as connected to wifi but not to the internet.

I have tried factory resetting the router (As suggested by 2degrees Internet) and I've tried setting my laptop DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I have also tried to change the wifi channels in case of interference.

Any suggestions or advice is welcome and I'm happy to provide extra info on request. Thank you for your attention.

Thanks both for your suggestions however any troubleshooting show that there are no problems found so what ever troubleshooting step i do cannot find an issue i reset the wifi more than once cleared wifi setting removed drivers let windows install them back
, installed them from my device support site , installed them with latest updates form manufacturer support site still all lead to same thing that it just disconnects btw this is a new laptop with fresh windows installation i just had it for a week

Disconnection reason am not sure what does that mean am starting to think that wifi card is faulty
