  1. Could my router be causing my internet to drop ethernet?

Hello,I am currently running into an issue with my internet randomly dropping on a system connected to the ethernet. I have a Motorola Modem and Asus RT-AX58U Router. I will be playing a game or just watching YouTube videos and the connection will randomly drop. I have tried two different cables and two different ports on the router itself. I initially thought it was the ethernet port on my motherboard so I upgraded my PC with a new CPU, Motherboard, Ram, etc... Once I started playing a game again on the new system, it also randomly dropped the connection. However, I had my phone next to me an

    My internet keeps dropping out!

I suggest you connect your laptop to the router with a ethernet cable. If the wired connection is stable you know that there is nothing wrong with the internet connection itself and with your LAN. Next step would be to go to the website of your laptop manufacturer and look for the latest WLAN drivers. Install them and test whether it improves the reliability of your WLAN connection. Then post back the results.

Windows XP to internet provider router

I have a computer that still runs on Windows XP that was given to me about 2 yrs. ago & I recently just got an ethernet cable 3 wks. ago to connect the router to the computer. Because the computer runs on XP, I need step by step instructions on how to get
the list of internet providers on my computer to have the internet going through my provider. Can you do that for me? Is there step by step instructions for me to follow? Please help me with that.

Could my router be causing my internet to drop ethernet?

Ethernet Can't Obtain an IP Address from My Router

    I really appreciate everyone's ideas!

I'm working through the suggestions, and here's an update:

I removed my Kaspersky software using Kaspersky's own uninstaller (kavremover.) This did not solve the problem, unfortunately.

Next step: Restoring my router to default settings.

    - - - Updated - - -

    I performed two final steps:

I booted my computer from a live Linux distro; Linux detected my Ethernet controller but could not obtain an IP address for it from DHCP (demonstrating that the problem is not caused by Windows.)

I reset my modem to factory defaults - no help.

Therefore, it seems very clear to me that my problem - I am unable to obtain an IP address for an Ethernet connection - can only be caused by the router hardware. My router is 7 years old, and nothing lasts forever ... I accept that. Still, it does seem mysterious to me. My router consists entirely of electrical components - there's nothing to wear out or break. As long as I don't abuse it, it should probably last forever and the only reason I would have to replace it is because newer equipment is so much better.

My final step was to contact the router manufacturer (ASUS) who assigned me a case number. I can't imagine what incentive they have to assist me with a 7-year old router, but I'll give it a shot.
