Windows 10: Could someone please help me figure out how to set up Bitlocker? (Want to use a master...

I just upgraded my Windows license. When I navigate to the Bitlocker management window in the Control Panel, it says “OS (C Bitlocker on”. I didn’t do anything to set up Bitlocker after upgrading my license, and don’t have to enter any passwords or PINS on startup besides my usual log in password. I can’t really tell that anything has changed. Device encryption is also enabled and has been for as long as I’ve had my laptop.

I exclusively use a local account with a standard password, not a PIN. All that I’m looking for is to be promoted to enter a long master password upon booting from shutdown or hibernation. That’s it. No TPM PIN’s, biometrics, or anything else like that. Simple and straightforward.

Could someone please help me figure out how to set this up? Nearly every guide I see for setting up Bitlocker assumes the user wants to use TPM PIN’s.

why doesn't my bitlocker make me type a password?

Please follow these steps and check if that helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to start the BitLocker Device Encryption service.

Follow the below steps:

1. Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.

2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.

3. Search for BitLocker Device Encryption service.

4. Double click on BitLocker Device Encryption service and click on Start button.

5. Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to Automatic.

If the issue persists then change the password and change the settings on how drive is unlocked at startup.
