I think it will have a tough time killing XP never mind W7.

Windows will have to be Super Duper to have an impact on anything and even then. Change for the sake of changing and the cost may not be well received especially in the business community.

  6. I highly doubt it. The previous OS has to have big issues before Joe average with an OEM PC is going to even think of upgrading to a newer version. Windows 7 doesn't fit that bill so those that are already running it will likely keep running it until they have to replace that PC. For the rest of use, well that seems to be a never ending debate. Or should I say g8t versus h8t. *Zip

Windows 7 still have a loooooooooooooooong life ahead. I know for a fact that if Windows 9 does not meet my expectations, I'll stay with, once again, Windows 7.

"Joe average with an OEM PC" typically doesn't upgrade the OS EVER. Whatever OS the machine came with stays on it until the machine is replaced. Members of this forum maybe the type to upgrade the OS but the average user is not.

I doubt there will be any compelling reason to upgrade to Win 9 from either Win 7 or Win 8.

  9. Well I consider myself "Joe average" but I'll get 9 if can get a good enough deal on it, otherwise I'll have to stay with what I have for now and wait till I can afford a new machine that comes with it, although I'd prefer a retail copy if possible. *Wink

The fact that you read and post to these forums automatically excludes you from the "Joe average" camp.

  11. Exactly my point. Enthusiasts will likely be the only ones even thinking of upgrading the OS.

As an MVP I'll get it though MSDN so it will have to suck pretty bad for me not to use it on at least one PC. I'm not anticipating that scenario so I'll likely run it on all my PC's except maybe my wife's laptop. It all depends on how different it is from 8.1 as to whether I upgrade her laptop. She isn't even up to Joe average skill levels and she knows it. She wouldn't be offended by that comment either. About all she does is Facebook and the occasional Google search. I love her anyway. *Biggrin

I'll install it on one of my notebooks that hasn't allot of use.

The only thing I'm afraid of is that it won't be a good gaming OS I mean,
you can't beat either XP or 7 for gaming. Most grade A games still recommend
    Windows 7.

We'll just have to wait and see.
Very much anticipating it's demo in September.

I'm curious to see some research on that statement "7 is better than 8" for gaming. I used to play a few games on 7 that I still play on 8.1 now and I see no decrease in performance. Actually, sometimes it's the other way around because 8 feels lighter on resources (no Aero).

However I am curious to see if MS is working on something new for the PC gaming community in 9. Wouldn't it be amazing if we had the old Game Explorer back with enhanced features etc. ? If nothing else, that's a good start. Round up all the games (not on Steam and/or Origin) in one place, provide descriptions, update notifications etc...
