That's one thing I don't have to bother with I don't need a gaming machine, I just don't have time to play games on here. I do occasionally play a couple of the Facebook games, Candy Crush and Bubble Witch Saga but only play one of those once a day.
If I run out of lives I just leave, there's no way I'll pay for anything extra for them.

Joan, I love you. You just gave me an idea about a gaming rant. I haven't done those in a while. Might post it over at SF as soon as today *Biggrin

  3. I gamed on 7 and still game on 8.x. No noticeable difference on the same hardware for me. FSP's mostly like Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor.

I did notice 8 being just slightly better in some games. In 7, my FPS would drop dramatically because when the GPU hits a certain temperature, the clocking drops and so do the frames. And I can't do anything about it because of a locked BIOS.

But ever since 8.1 I've never experienced this, even when playing the same games. Sure, FPS still drops but not the actual clocking. That's the reason I stayed on 8 *Smile

I think there will be various elements that will rule the acceptance of W9

    • Price for one - for $40 like the early W8 I would get it regardless. But I can probably get it thru MSDN anyhow.
    • New function - if there is enough new and desirable function (and stuff the layman wants), then people may go for that.
    • User Interface - it must be easy and intuitive for XP and W7 users to deal with it. After all, the migration base would be XP or W7
    • Downward compatibility - old programs must run
    • Quality and stability - and that from day 1. If it gets out of the door with a stigma of poor quality, it will never recover (see Vista).

  6. It seems like the only way to kill Windows xp is Windows xp.

  7. Well I'm going to Widows 9 a roll in the hay. I also would want a retail version. I would install it on a nice new already bought Intel SSD. If the price is right I will get two of them.

Well I am still none the wiser from looking around at the stuff being put out on 9 and indeed the 8.2 for example.
Now I have two machines running 8.1 and while they are in my mind faster I always run them 7 style. What I don't want is anything that looks like 8 or any of the possible variants but I would like the speed.
As for gaming I always have problems trying out games which for one example - Sniper is so convoluted or maybe I am just a bit too thick to grasp what the heck is going on so I cannot comment on the gaming prowess of 7 on my Ivy Bridge which I am running 7 right now because of my difficulty in getting the hang of gaming.
The other issue is how much is 9 likely to cost? can't find anything along those lines but again I might be a tad slow on the uptake.
Now the other thing I also noticed is posting here the speckie spell check works very much along the lines that the 8 machines do in that it puts the spelling into block whereas the 7 I can use a pointer to get the correct spellings and again is it going to be like 8? If so and it keeps the stupid (in my mind) changes to the Control Panel features like File history instead of a plain no nonsense Back up and restore then it is going to be disappointing.
