    Coverting from Microsoft Works 5.0 to Word


    Back when I had Windows 98SE, Works 5.0 disc came included. I used it for years even with my Windows XP PCs. I stopped writing so it didn't get used for a long long time. I now am pulling up my books I wrote on Works 5.0 and when I try to open it, it comes up like "wing dings". If I open it in Notepad, I can see the text but it is intermixed with all of the symbols so it's essentially worthless without major surgery. There is a convert function with Word, but it only goes back to Works 6.0. I've tried to find a copy of Works 6.0 or later, but there is the problem of its compatibility wi

    I have a lot of ms word files on my pc. But one of them showed me an error - Getting unknown error messages while opening (.doc) or (.docx) files. I don't know how to open my word file or repair microsoft word. Any suggestions, guys, please.

    Is it just one file, or all your word files?

    With the exception of Outlook, I have yet to find a reason to stop using Office 2000, 2003, and 2007. They open all the latest files just fine, and they work just fine.
