I am at a loss of what I can do except send this laptop, to the manufactory Lenovo, and I hate to do this. Runs at 100%cpu with any browser I use, I use the Chrome, it is worse, then I use Edge, it gets back to100% real fast also .
What I have done so far.
1.reset back to factory settings saving no personal info...like straight from the store, I have taken off all bloat programs.
2.I have restarted the WMI Provider Host ,( advised to do)
    3. I use cc cleaner daily keeping crap build up down
    4. I continually research for what do to, trying different things
    5. Proxy server keeps starting up, even though I have removed in the registry...

Sorry I am not able to actually show all the things in maintenance, I have done...JUST help please?Attachment 116291

    Windows 10 - Core 2 Duo T6400 2 GHz support

    Hi,

I installed Win 10 and now I have a problem with CPU Speed.

If I try to load CPU usage to 100% it stops at 90 %, 1.82 Ghz. Windows 10 Pro fresh installation. All drivers installed. Nvdida Chipset with SLI Graphics 9100 G / 9600 GS. Laptop.

In Win 7 Pro CPU used 100 %, ran at 2.00 Ghz.

    Is there any fix?

    Thanks for help.

    <snip>

In the Task Manager, under Performance tab, the disk utilization reaches to 100% due to which system became lagging and unresponsive. It started freezing in few moments and this keeps happening until disk usage reduces from 100%.

Control panel > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Processor Power Management > Maximum Processor state.

Also, once I start Chrome 64, it uses lots of cpu and ram to do absolutely nothing.

Hi, in your example, it seems Edge is downloading something.
    Do you know what?
If this is immediately after you have reset your system, I'm wondering why Edge would be downloading sthg.

If you can't resolve that, what happens to your CPU usage if you disconnect your internet completely, so it can't?
Please post a similar screenshot with it disconnected.

If CPU use is still high, please try in Safe Mode with and without networking for reference.

If you have changed your power plan such as modifying the plan or changing to Performance plan changing it back to default Balanced is known to solve the issue for many users.

You might also try adjusting how your Windows updates are delivered. Go to Settings - Update and security - Advanced options - Choose how updates are delivered, turn the radio button off.

What antivirus are you using? some of them have buggy browser integration , have you tried disabling Java? disabling flash player? just as a test. have you tried using chrome but with all the extensions disabled? have you run malwarebytes to check for anything nasty?

  7. Attachment 116406, this is with the internet off, I am not using a virus program, I am using windows defender, Java has been disabled and not disabled, Chrome is the worst, even with all extensions disabled, changed the power plan, didn't have any affect...one way or the other, checked on the way my updates are delivered, turn off...

Suggest you d/l Process Explorer by Sysinternals, it shows more in-depth details of running processes/CPU usage & can check to see if any of the processes are malicious. It's a free program & may aid with trying to track down the cause of this.

    Process Explorer

To use VirusTotal to scan your processes, navigate to Options/VirusTotal.com/Check VirusTotal.com. Click the agreement.

A new column will appear on the right with the results of the scan.

    Hope this helps.

Go ahead & post the whole thing, in 2 separate pictures if you have to.

Note the CPU column which should be right after the PID, from there watch how much idle time is displayed at the very top row & watch the various processes for a bit, noting which ones are spiking or have heavy usage. This should give you a clue as to what is causing the heavy usage.

You can further investigate by R Clicking on the process & selecting Properties. This will open another window with multiple tabs to have a more in depth look at what & how this process is being used.

You also have the option of looking up information on any process in question by R Clicking the process & selecting "Search Online" to Google anything you may wish to investigate.

Hope this helps you find the problem.

  11. these are 2 snips of the cpu, at idle it gets up 100%..reading emails,(100%) in one an then opening 1 window in chrome, chrome(88%) gets the cpu up 100% evertime any time open for a few minutes, all extra apps disabled

Since this high CPU usage happens when you are connected to the net, there is the possibility there is a malicious program running once the connection is made. Did you run a scan on the processes with VirusTotal as mentioned above to be sure none of them are listed as malicious?

You could try turning off wAPPer for G Mail & see if the problem gets any better. To do so, r click the process & select kill process.

If only 1 in showing up out of 56 & it's a not a major AV, then probably nothing to worry about.

The program wAPPer for G Mail looks like it has high CPU usage, but there may be other problems related to Google. I've seen similar posts of Chrome with high CPU usage which I notice is high on one of your screenshots.

Suggest you disable wAPPer as mentioned in the earlier post & see if this solves the high CPU usage. A few various posts I found relating to high Chrome usage may also be helpful. If the problem continues, consider applying these actions to see if they help the problem.

It also wouldn't hurt to run a scan with Malwarebytes & AdwCleaner to make sure nothing is in your system trying to connect & d/l things to your system. Both programs are free.

    Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Malware Removal

On the Malwarebytes choose the free one. It will work as well as the paid one.

AdwCleaner has had some false positives in the past, so if possible, make a system image & backups. For a while they were having some issues, but I haven't seen anything posted recently so they probably sorted the problem.

Something troubles me, you did a factory reset & the problem remained. It's probable that the CPU problem is software based or something else, but there is a possibility you have a rootkit. If this is the case, yes, some rootkits can survive a reinstall or factory reset. To cover your bases, d/l & run TDSSKiller to check for that possibility.

    TDSSKiller Download

Note When running TDSSKiller, launch the program, click on the blue text "Change Parameters" & check the box marked "Detect TDLFS File system." Click OK & then run the scan.
