CPU fan running at full speed in Windows 10

    Hello.
I have the same problem (fans at full speed) in my HP Pavilion Core i3. I think the root of the problem is the lack of an apropiate driver for the Intel Graphics HD (is not officially supported by Windows 10).
Can anyone confirm that this problem has a solution?
    Thanks

Could find the "subscribe to thread" icon here so i'm posting...

Have an HP EliteBook running to a purr on Win 7.
Updating to Win 10 always went well but after a few updates, the fan is always running.
Will try again and follow up on preview posts.

Driver Booster at free level is very good to update many drivers.
Was recommended by Matthew Moore (the now Arch Linux fan).

    Hi Tony910.
Any news about this problem? I still have the fans at full speed!
I guess it is because of the lack of official support for my Intel HD Graphics video card.
    Regards

  4. CPU fan running at full speed in Windows 10

    Hi All,

After several days of research I found a little bug with Windows 10.. For my system (and I recommend everyone check theirs), Windows 10 installed 2 graphic card drivers. I disabled one of the graphic cards (obviously the one that was non-existent in my system) and voila the fan stopped spinning. I've had the system running for 8 hours now, running office, chrome, YouTube etc etc.. not once has the fan spooled to full speed. I really hope this is the common problem and it fixes most of your systems guys, Good Luck!

    Cheers

I guess that Windows 10 uses prefetch like Windows 7 and 8 did and when you install a new OS the prefetch is constantly active for the first few hours / days. The extra hardware activity would keep the heat up. Just a thought.

These issues with fan speeds at maximum have nothing to do with Cortana or any other running apps! For the majority of cases it's simply that after upgrading to Windows 10, no working fan controllers (drivers) have been installed for your motherboard.

Any of you that built your own PC will likely remember that the first time you booted your newly built PC you had to install the motherboard drivers from the supplied software CD. In the majority of newer PC's these would have included a fan speed controller. The problem with Windows 10 as many of you know is that Windows Update downloads and installs the most appropriate drivers for your system but in reality as is often the case these drivers are NOT always appropriate. In many situations Windows update cannot find a newer driver and so you end up with an old outdated driver which may or may not support Windows 10.

I have experienced this firsthand recently while performing a 'clean install' of Windows 10. Everything went fine with the one exception...., my fan was screaming along loudly at full speed. Unable to find an updated fan speed controller driver on the ASUS website I decided to test if the original driver would work but to my disappointment Windows 10 prompted with a message stating that the drivers were not compatible with this operating system. Hence therefore in the majority of cases above it's simply a case that your motherboard is not fully supported under the Windows 10 environment.

Bizarrely however restoring my PC back to it's former 'Upgrade' configuration of Windows 10 does allow the fan speed controller to run as normal.

Any of you who find yourself in this situation could perhaps try this software however please be aware I have not tested this myself. SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Had the same problem on my Dell XPS 12 (9Q23) I checked Device Manager and found several unknown devices. I checked the properties of each, noted their hardware ID, and did a browser search to identify the driver. Turns out all belonged to the Intel Platform & Thermal Framework chipset driver family (fan, generic, memory, processor). I located and extracted the driver from the Dell Win 10 drivers cab file for my system and used it to update the driver for each unknown device. After a reboot, the fan issue was gone. While Win 10 does a pretty good job of installing many device drivers, it might miss some critical ones on some systems so be sure to check. Microsoft could've and should update the Win 10 installer to include a pop up notification at the end informing the end user if some device drivers weren't installed or were replaced with generic drivers.

  10. Solved. Occam's Razor, of course. For most, the fan runs constantly because the hard disk is being accessed almost continuously. Go to "Settings" on the menu. Under settings, click on the System icon, choose Notifications. Click to "off" the five switches on the right (tips on windows seems to be the culprit, but none is crucial, and all will boost disk access). exit settings and restart. You won't believe the difference.

I found that same tip somewhere else. My laptop was suddenly heating up ( installed Windows 10 yesterday)
All I did was switch the tips on windows one off and the fan is quiet and laptop cool again within 10 minutes.

  12. This solved my problem! In device manager i found "AMD Radeon 7400m" and "AMD Radeon HD 7640g + HD 7400m" I deleted the first one and the problem was solved *Biggrin

Edit, ok i had to remove the other one since AMD crimson gave an error that there is no video card driver installed. *Tongue

I had this problem when i brought the Laptop Dell Inspiron 3542 i5 a day back and followed all the solutions discussed
in the forum without success, however by chance while trying to fix i have to restart the laptop and noticed a message while booting stating something like this... " Factory mode - pls press Fn + X", whoa, whoa....is it something i should try fix the problem? I asked my self and finally found out that it is the solution, on the desktop ( In Windows 10 pls choose desktop tile *Wink) i just pressed " Fn + x " key, bingo the fan went quite *Smile...., hope this help.

  14. I have found what is going wrong with the AMD A series APU's and windows 10.
Somehow my laptop thinks (dont know if its windows 10 or the amd driver or whatever) that my cpu is at a much higher temperature than it really is. Piriform Speccy shows 95C but it's way colder than that. I know that because the air coming out of the ventilator is ice cold. If i remove the drivers and let windows 10 install their own PiriformSpeccy shows 37C at idle and the fan goes back to normal speed. I have no idea how to fix this though, but now i know it is a software related problem. Who's to blame? Windows or AMD? I hope someone knows the answers to these questions.

My user name is . I would like to request detailed instructions on disabling Runtime Broker in the registry that you offered to do in in the post quoted above. My loud fan noise comes on and then stops every time I do as little as go to another website. Then when I perform another simple task the same process goes on indefinitely.
