CPU goes up to 100% after updating to Win 10

    Hi guys,

Would appreciate any help at all. Thank you very much. After updating to Win 10 recently, I realized that I was lagging everytime I run some games. Even exiting them, it would still continue to mess up my CPU with heavy usage. With 16GB of ram this shouldn't happen. While in game, there was heavy graphic lag. I turned off all my additional programs in the background, did scans of CCleaner and my Anti virus. I also cleaned up registry with CCleaner.

Did some research previously and also turned off all the Customer Experience Issues in the Task Scheduler. This issue still happens every now and then. How do I check what exactly is the rundll32.exe is coming from?

Could it be a hardware issue? Fans clogged up or is it purely a software issue? Any help would be greatly apppreciated. Thank you for your time. *Smile

  2. Predictable 100% disk usage crash

    Started Win 10

Task Manager showed CPU on-time started at 0:00

Download for update KB3189866 started at 48% and went to 100% after 7 min.

    Re-start for install

After successful re-start and installation, CPU on-time reset to 0:00

System crashed after 59 min. with a 100% C: (drive 0) disk usage

Windows 10 update does jam the computer during download and installation

    Hello community

We have an issue in our company where we have several computers that we're putting Windows 10 on computers.

We're seeing issues, that when Windows 10 does download and install windows updates, the CPU goes up to 100% and it's mostly impossible to do anything aside that. This goes on for hours... and for some have this issue during their work - day.

When the plug is removed from the NIC during the download, CPU load goes down. As soon as it's being plugged back in, CPU goes up back to 100%.

We've seen this with some computers such as e.g. Dell OptiPlex 7010 i3, Dell OptiPlex 7040 i5, Microsoft Surface 4 Pro i7, Lenovo Yoga 2 i5.

The task that's taking all the CPU is svchost.exe

Any clues how to fix that? It's a reoccurring issue.

CPU goes up to 100% after updating to Win 10

This problem only happens around midnight onwards..It seems there is some kind of thing updating maybe? Could it be a malware?

I have turned off Windows Defender, windows update, etc...Nothing in the task bar is running (antivirus/etc)

Is there any program or solution that I could enable to see what exactly are the rundll32.exe that are running?

Any help is appreciated..Thank you very much.

    You could try Process Explorer.

Right click on the process, select properties and then look into the image tab. That should tell you what it is doing.

Check Task Scheduler for anything that starts around midnight. Might give some indication as to the cause.

CPU goes up to 100% after updating to Win 10

I was experiencing very similar problems just like you last week. I do graphic design work and my graphics programs were giving me the old..."Not responding" message with the activity indicator just spinning. I was having serious lag issues noticing that my 6 gigs of memory were almost reaching their limit just doing some simple rendering in Photoshop. So, I decided to followed many suggestions on doing a clean re-install of Windows 10 and now all previous problems are GONE! I then added another 12 gigs of memory after the re-install and my system is really running great! Maybe you need to do the re-installation so Windows 10 runs lean and clean.
