Windows 10: CPU issue after Windows update

Apologies beforehand for any lack of clarity but I am not a computer wiz.


I recently updated to Windows 10, 1909. Ever since then, I have had an issue whereby the CPU load will drop to and stay at 10% for about 2 minutes. This is followed by major lag across the system. After about 2 minutes, the CPU reverts back to its normal load and everything operates just fine. I am constantly monitoring the Task Manager and know instantly when the lag is about to happen as soon as CPU load hits 10% and stays there. This issue occurs every 10 minutes or so and has greatly impeded my workflow.


I have a 2 monitor set up on a Lenovo T480 connected through a docking station.


I have updated everything across the system that I could BIOS, Graphics drivers, etc..


Any help on pinpointing the cause of this issue and potential solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely not an issue with the Windows Servers as I just re-installed yesterday and got all my updates.

It works, but I still need to fix it so that way I dont have to plug computers directly to the modem to get windows update to work. It was also blocking me from installing directx.

If your wireless router has a built in firewall maybe it's somehow set to block the ports that Windows updates use?

I'd also suggest if it works with it being directly connected then you could try resetting your router to see if this fixes the issue.
