    CPU upgrade before or after Win10 upgrade (from W7)?


    I am running W7 Ultimate, with a Core i5-2500K cpu.
    I recently got a used Core i7-3770K cpu, which I'd like to install.
    Should I complete this hardware change before or after upgrading to W10? Everything seems to be running fine right now with W7 (recently did a clean re-install after a SNAFU of a BIOS update.)

    W10 after motherboard upgrade?

    Hi

    I'm about to upgrade my desktop mobo cpu and ram. I'm running windows 10 from the free upgrade. Before I wipe my HDD will I be able to get w10 back?

    My copy of w7 is an original as it's a purpose built machine.

    Although I did temporally upgrade to Win10 for free last year, just to get a feel of it, being that I regularly upgrade my PC components, I had to go back to Win7 after a new Mobo/CPU install.

    So even before the free upgrade offer, I always had it in mind that I would need to buy a retail copy of Win10. My question is, will the current price for Win10 change AFTER the free upgrade deadline? Is it best to purchase my retail copy of Win10 BEFORE
    the deadline?

    Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Hello Kieran, and welcome to Ten Forums.

    Since the activation of the free Windows 10 upgrade offer will be tied to your hardware, I would recommend to update the CPU first, then upgrade to Windows 10 after everything checks out ok. *Smile
